Many of the buildings sit on wooden pilings that only rot when exposed to dry conditions. The Beacon Hill Times reports on nascent concern in the area about the pilings.

Last Longfellow Bridge tower back in place

MassDOT reports construction workers finished topping off the last of the Longfellow Bridge's iconic shakers today when they re-attached the top, or capstone, of the tower closest to the Museum of Science on the Boston side. Read more.

The Globe reports the proposed easement would let the developer of 25 Beacon St. add three maid's rooms, sorry, au pair's rooms, in an attempt to find buyers for the units, which go for $9 million to $11 million each.

Smoke on the tracks at Charles/MGH on the Red Line

Kylejemge watched the driver of an outbound Red Line train get out of the train and put a fire extinguisher to good use just before Charles/MGH this afternoon:

Climbed back in and kept going.

UPDATE: BFD says the fire started in a rooftop flowerpot, but that investigators don't know what set that on fire.

A fire called in around 7:10 p.m. at 32-34 Hancock St. did an estimated $500,000 in damage, but caused no injuries, the Boston Fire Department reports.

The four-story building has 16 units.

Boston Police report a woman walking with her guide dog was indecently assaulted at Beacon and Bowdoin streets around 10:05 a.m. today.

A former employee of the Suffolk University registrar's office admitted today she gave herself an A in a class she never actually took - business ethics - and passing grades in other classes so she could get federal student loans, the US Attorney's office in Boston reports. Read more.

UPDATE: Restaurant passed a re-inspection on June 10.

A city health inspector yesterday ordered Hulun Beir, 326 Cambridge St., shut until it fixes a long list of violations, including cooks not washing their hands at all - not that it would matter, since their sink had no hot water - containers in use despite caked-on food and evidence a sink supposedly being set aside for hand washing was being used to rinse food. The Boston Fire Department reports a fire at 11 Temple St., off Cambridge, sent one firefighter to the hospital with a hand injury.

The fire, reported at 12:10 a.m., displaced between 20 and 25 residents - none injured - and caused an estimated $750,000 in damage.

Around 11:30 a.m. at Beacon and Charles streets. WCVB reports a passenger on the scooter survived, but was rushed to the hospital.

Mike Freedberg takes a look at the numbers in yesterday's special election for the state Senate seat Joe Boncore of Winthrop won:

Winthrop, which totals about 12 percent of the District’s population, saw about 4100 ballots. Boston, whose precincts take up moire than 50 percent of the District, registered barely 5,420. A town of 18,000 people almost equaled the vote of Boston wards home to about 110,000 folks!

And the smallest turnout of all was on Beacon Hill, home to state Rep. Jay Livingstone.
