In conjunction with today's soldout fourth annual CitySplash event, the Charles River Conservancy, released "Swimming in the Charles: A Feasibility Study for the Establishment of a Permanent Swimming Facility in the Charles River Basin" and launched Swim the Charles, an Indiegogo campaign to support returning swimming to the Charles.

Divers from BFD and State Police and firefighters from Boston and Cambridge went into the Charles near the Mass. Ave. bridge shortly after 5 p.m. on a report that somebody jumped or fell into the river. Around 5:27 p.m., firefighters found the man and got him out of the water. He was turned over to EMS for preparation to be transported to a local hospital.

State Police report crews are searching the Charles River near the Weeks Footbridge for a man witnesses say jumped into the river shortly before 7 a.m. and then did not surface.

Sometime after 10:30 p.m., Boston University Police came upon a trespasser in a BU building at 771 Commonwealth Ave. He ran, they chased - right to the banks of the Charles River, into which he jumped, just downstream from the BU Bridge.
As he tried to swim to Cambridge, Boston and State Police arrived, as did Boston and Cambridge firefighters with boats. Troopers in a boat found him, pulled him up and brought him to the Boston side, where, Rob Cant reports, he was put on a stretcher and taken away by Boston EMTs.
