Sox get to finish Cards off at home

Go up 3-2 as Ortiz proves unstoppable. And no bizarre ending to the game.

Michael Dyer notes:

It has been 34,745 days since the Sox clinched a WS at home. TV didn't exist then. WW1 was still going on. Wednesday can't come soon enough

There are not enough adjectives for Ortiz's performance.

Say, for the sake of argument, the Series goes seven games.

And say, further for the sake of argument, that Papi goes 0-fer in those games (call it 8 ABs).

He'd still be batting north of .400.

IF the Sox win it, I think the only way Papi doesn't get MVP is if it goes seven games and he goes the rest of the way without getting on base. In that case, it could be Lester or somebody else.

Hell, there's a case to be made for Papi getting it no matter which team wins. The only MVP award I can remember being awarded to a player from the losing team in a championship is Jerry West of the Lakers in 1969, but it could happen if he keeps hitting and the Sox lose.

Conn Smythe has gone to members of losing team several times.
