Once, F. Alvin Ricci was the man for Hyde Park

F. Alvin Ricci: He's the man in Hyde Park

It's faded over the years, but you can still make out the election ad painted on the side of Ron's Gourmet Ice Cream and 20th Century Bowling on Hyde Park Avenue. Anybody know when F. Alvin Ricci ran for state rep? And did he make it?

Another historical curiosity of the wall is this old placard for a long gone telephone:

I only mention it because sometimes there's a man... I won't say a hero, 'cause, what's a hero? But sometimes, there's a man. And I'm talkin' about the Dude here. Sometimes, there's a man, well, he's the man for his time and place. He fits right in there.

Al ran in the Democratic Primary for State Rep from Ward 18 in 1938. He came in a respectable third at 1,555 votes to second place finisher Michael Paul Feeney's 1,615 but distant from Frank Morrison's 1,813 votes. Both Feeney and Morrison won seats in November (this was in the days of multiple seat districts.)

That that ad has survived all this time on that wall.

Ron's is ranked among the top 3 ice cream shops in the US by National Geographic.

I took that photo as we walked to Ron's for some ice cream.

Sound like he was a star athlete at BC:

He appears to have passed away in 1984.

It's like getting instantly transported to the past which was full of hope and we all now know that it was eventually squashed.

He served in the House until defeated in the election of 1980 by Angelo Scaccia, who is still the State Rep for the area.

I like Angelo, but when you think about it, from 1939 until at least 2017 (God willing) Hyde Park was represented by 2 people (aside from the second seat.) It makes Menino look like a short timer.
