Woman hit by Orange Line train at Mass. Ave.
By adamg on Sat, 11/15/2014 - 3:51pm
Transit Police report a woman, apparently in her 20s, fell on the inbound tracks around 3:15 p.m., just as a train was entering the station.
Boston Fire Department personnel extricated the victim and she was transported to a local area hospital with NON life threatening injuries.
Boston EMS Incidents reports she was alert and conscious as firefighters worked to get her out.
Service was suspended in both directions as power was turned off to allow first responders to work.

Again...? Depression or
Again...? Depression or stupidity?
Or ...
Dizziness or loss of balance ...
In their report, Transit Police did NOT call her a "trespasser," which is their usual code word for "jumper" and said she fell on the tracks, which they don't say when somebody jumps. Also:
She appeared strung out and
She appeared strung out and extremely disoriented...she literally walked off the platform as the train approached.
Or blind? Or deaf? Or
Or blind? Or deaf? Or epileptic? Or weak? There are numerous reasons why a person could fall off the platform. None of them are indicative of stupidity.
Son had a
3 hour tour from Sullivan Square to Rozzie.
Alerts?
I hope she's okay.
What surprised me was I at got on an Forest Hills bound Orange line train at Haymarket just after 4 PM. As soon as we got on, they said it was going out of service because of medical emergency at Mass Ave and we should "take the Green Line to Forest Hills" - someone's living in the past...
Then on my hour and half alternate transit commute back to JP, I noticed that not once had I seen a text alert on my phone about the shut down, the shuttles, etc. Not even the All clear afterwards. Good going alert system. *sigh*
Their e-mail alerts were
Their e-mail alerts were working. I got one at 3:20 about a "moderate delay", then one at 3:35 about shuttle buses, one at 4:08 about a "severe delay", and one at 4:49 that the shuttle had ended.
But the texts one (which
But the texts one (which usually do) weren't for some reason. Even though I got the usually text reminder from the T about the Red line stuff about shuttles in two weeks that morning. Which is why I mentioned it.
Are you sure you're
Are you sure you're subscribed to orange line alerts for that time period? They're separate from red line ones.
I empathize with you
but all you had to do was cross over to green, hop on a train to Heath (or to Park, and switch to Heath), and most of your battle is over. If you need to go beyond Heath, you got the bus. Of get off at Copley and hop on a bus up Huntington. Sure, you might have a bit of a walk if you live close to the orange line stops, but not that bad. It really took an extra 1 1/2 hours?
Didn't say and extra 1 & 1/2
Didn't say and extra 1 & 1/2 - it just added an hour for a total of hour and a half. And that was doing exactly that Green line to Copley and then a super packed 39 because everyone was doing the same plus Saturday night Boston traffic along Huntington...
OK
Never mind then.
I got text alerts on my phone
about the situation. Including the stupid "All Clear (with a regurgitation of the entire alert) " instead of the much more quickly understood "Orange Line now on or near schedule" they used to use with the old system.
