Great Food!
ZAZ has really delicious food, this will help their dine in business hopefully as they do more take out :)
Seven Star Street Bistro?
I thought they had applied before Ula and there were no beer and wine licenses available. That's disappointing.
I agree
Seven Star got the shaft on this one.
Pretty sure that the license distribution
is much more localized--i.e. Seven Star and Ula wouldn't have been dueling for the same license. Not 100% certain but I think Ula got Tres Gatos' beer and wine license while Tres Gatos was "upgraded" to cordials or hard liquor.
According
to the JPNews, Tres Gatos qualified because they are in a district targeted by the new license distribution passed by the legislature last year. Earlier accounts said that Ula, like Seven Star, were not in those districts.
I'm not questioning your reasoning, just questioning what seems to be a murky process at best. Maybe Adam will have the answer.
Ula!
Very excited to hear that Ula got its license too. I have no idea what a cafe/bakery wants with a beer and wine license, but I have high hopes for them.
Wine and beer at Ula's
It will be good for their weekend brunches, and will attract tourists from the Sam Adams brewery to lunch. A lot of folks are/were disappointed to find out that Bella Luna doesn't serve lunch and that Ula's didn't serve beer.
Ula seems like an odd choice
Ula seems like an odd choice for beer and wine. Their popovers are really good though!
If it were just a bakery, yes ...
At the licensing hearing last month, though, the owner said she's using the space at night for such things as artist's receptions, where a glass of wine makes more sense to many people than a cappuccino.
Yay for ULA. Also, it should
Yay for ULA. Also, it should be said that one part of their mission has always been to help build community in JP. I think that is admirable and should be what local businesses are about. They really do benefit the community in a myriad of ways. Anyway, just glad that the good people over there got what they wanted.
Happy for Ula!
Nice staff, good coffee, good sandwiches, and OMG GREAT wedding cookies!
Agreed!
They are one of the top reasons why I love living here--perfect neighborhood spot. And I don't know their plans for evening food and drink but there's no doubt we could use more places open in the evening on this side of the tracks. I appreciate Bella Luna as a kind of social/event spot but frankly not a fan of their food and there's really nothing in the same vein open nearby. I was hoping that Bartlett Square would evolve into a nighttime option but obviously that hasn't happened. Ula has such a good feel for the neighborhood--I would so much rather see them expand than see more generic places (a la Tonic or Sanctuary) come in with all the new development.
Agreed on all accounts. And,
Agreed on all accounts. And, if you haven't been to Coco's yet, definitely give them a try-- everything I've eaten there has been good (the mofongo was great), and I was so glad to see a place with seating open up between Brookside and Egleston.
