No school tomorrow as city goes into snow emergency mode again
By adamg on Sun, 02/01/2015 - 4:11pm
UPDATE: Unlike last week, trash pickup will NOT be delayed a day. However, crews will hit the road earlier (5 a.m.) to try to stay ahead of the snow.
Mayor Walsh says an official snow emergency goes into effect at 6 a.m., which means people parked on snow routes have until 8 a.m. to move their cars, although based on the latest forecasts, if you're waiting until 6 a.m. to move your car, you might have some problems.
School is cancelled, but city youth centers will open at 7:30 a.m. for parents who still have to get to work and need a place for their kids during the day.

Parking?
So, let me get this straight: It will be snowing 1-2 inches per hour starting at 2am. But the city isn't letting those of us who need to get to a municipal garage do that until 4am? I would much rather park my car tonight (heck, even right now so I can be home for the superbowl) then fight the snowstorm before dawn just so I can get off the street. This is completely crazy.
I don't think Mayor Walsh
I don't think Mayor Walsh will be known as the people's mayor...
If I had to guess, the city
If I had to guess, the city was trying to be more helpful than harmful by picking the time. BPD says they won't start towing until 8am, presumably allowing most residents who drive to work a chance to drive to work instead of having to park in a garage at all.
Wow.
Tomorrow morning's commute has all the signs of an absolute disaster. And there could be 10-18 inches of snow on the ground as people start to head home. No idea why the government is not encouraging people to work from home tomorrow.
Snow emergency?
Isn't that what a snow emergency typically means?
I was wondering that myself
The city has listed that Library's and City Hall will be open for normal hours. I work at night so I know going home will suck for sure, even after rush hour.
Yep, government is open today
Perhaps to make up for the second snow day last week that wasn't really required.
I don't think that was the best move but I was able to get into work without too much peril today, hopefully the same is true for the trip home.
oh noes!
If Baker doesn't issue a travel ban how will people survive?!?! It will be anarchy!
Groundhog Day...
is tomorrow! And after tonight and a fourth snow day tomorrow, we'll all feel like sleeping for six weeks!
Youth centers
So kids can't get to school, but they can get to a youth center?
Youth Center = Safety Net
The youth centers are available for parents who HAVE TO work and need short notice child care. I'm sure most kids get dropped off by parents.
on a tangent...
Anyone know why NWS warnings have such odd formatting? It always looks like a relic of some bygone age before lower case when line breaks were worth their weight in gold.
Teletype
These machines (with or without a keyboard) have all caps by default, so it could be the reason why the NWS reports their weather updates this way.
response to youth centers
Yes they cannot get to school like my child who is bussed from jp to hyde park but thankfully can walk to youth center. So youth centers are a life saver for working parents and probably for some kids that may otherwise sit in a cold home all day. So big thanks to Boston youth and family service:)
Trash better happen
Considering it didn't get picked up on the day it was delayed to last week.
