By adamg on Fri, 04/10/2015 - 2:38pm
Boston Police and the Suffolk County District Attorney's office today released this video showing Boston Officer John Moynihan being shot in the face point blank during a traffic stop in Roxbury on March 27. His shooter, Angelo West, was fatally shot.
Police Commissioner William Evans said today that Moynihan continues to recover.

Next time you want to make a
cop doughnut joke think of this video.
I have BPD in my family and
I have BPD in my family and trust me, we keep with the donut jokes. I particularly remember one gathering when cousin had to report to work so we joked about donuts and coffee.
He got back at us by telling how much he was going to get paid an hour for this OT shift.
Needless to say he left chuckling.
Then again, I remember another family member (Det.) having to leave in the middle of Christmas because someone had murdered their mother. There were no donut jokes that day.
And crickets.
And crickets.
No outrage.
We have created a world in which Police lives don't matter.
And your comment is just to complain about the lack of comments
Maybe there's not much more to say after the initial story and the followup. The video is truly awful to watch, but it doesn't tell us anything we didn't already know about how Moynihan and West were shot.
My feeling is somewhat in
My feeling is somewhat in agreement. We just spent the last how many months hearing how cops are nothing but murderous, racist bullies. Echoed by people who should have known better.
I mean people actually harrassed the cops as they were gathering evidence from this shooting The demonstrators were wrong and I'm sure they realized it after, but to think they actually did it.
It's a tough job not many can or would do, made all that much more difficult by the asshole cop in South Carolina and any other cops like him.
Part of the bad neighborhood
Part of the bad neighborhood reaction was, I believe, because people didn't understand why West's body was left in the street for so long.
It seemed disrespectful, and of course any shooting in the neighborhood is upsetting. It's police procedure to not move a body until all the evidence has been gathered, but this wasn't clear to everyone at the time.
Sorry, but I'm not believing
Sorry, but I'm not believing that excuse.
They were adults.
A cop was just shot.
The video was disgusting. Just as disgusting, to me, as the video from S.C.
I hold cops to higher moral standards than I hold civilians
You know, since cops are supposed to protect and serve, have a legal near-monopoly on violence, are required to go through arms training, and they're the only strangers with guns you're theoretically safe to trust.
But then I'm a crazy big-gubbmint librul who likes hippety-hop music, so there's that.
I am worried though.....
That an alleged Harvard Law student would ask a police official if someone would have another option of force if that person was shot in the face. Ive never taken the LSATs but don't they have a section on logic similar to the GREs?
so what's your point?
West shot a cop point blank without provocation. See the footage. Focus on the "walking around while black" shootings, not situations like this. BTW, being a liberal doesn't equate to assuming all cops are the enemy.
Where I come from
It's pretty disrespectful to shoot a cop in the face.
Thats a BS excuse
Because when they tried to explain why his body was left in the street the idiots only became more aggressive.

Not necessarily a "neighborhood reaction."
The original videos taken of the cops at the scene by "neighbors" were almost certainly taken and shared by BLM Boston activists, not by outraged Humboldt Ave residents. Pretty sure that they were the ones confronting the cops and generally acting like a**holes. When it became clear that community leaders were not getting behind their outrage and that they'd made themselves look like idiots, the videos disappeared. If anyone knows differently, please feel free to correct, but I'm outraged that the truly shitty, stupid behavior of a few gung-ho activists was attributed to the entire neighborhood.
Dude
We expressed our condolences and outrage, when the story (w/o video) was first posted.
It's horrifying and outrageous!
We're glad the cop survived!
The monster who did it, is dead.
What more is there to say?
Dude?
Dude?
I'm sorry but like I said I somewhat agree. Would you be so flippant if the post turned to talking about the shooting of Garner in NYC, or the gentle giant in Ferguson?
Dude, that was like so long ago.
Gardner wasn't shot
Nor was he chocked to death!
Garner wasn't shot and the
Garner wasn't shot and the Giant wasn't gentle.
Gentle or not he was selling loose cigarettes. Write him up
and write him up again and again. He would have gotten the message. In a city of 6 million you are worrying about some small timer selling loose cigarettes? Most veteran officers will say "you shitting me? cigarettes"
I actually think that did happen Buick.....
And he didn't pay or show up to court so they put out a warrant for his arrest.
That doesn't mean he needed to be choked to death, but I don't think he ever would have let himself be arrested without a fight, and he certainly wasn't going to stop his illegal activities or pay his fines......
I'm assuming she's responding to Anon
who posted the "why no comments/outrage" whine.
How about thank you? We don't
How about thank you? We don't do that enough.
I'll do it for you all. Thank you Boston Police. Thank you for keeping me safe. Thank you for putting your lives on the line for our city EVERY SINGLE DAY.
And to you BPD, I say this: the horrific incident that happened in South Carolina has no bearing on how I view you. I will not extrapolate the actions of one to the lot of you.
Thank you BPD from the bottom of my heart.
The video was not what I expected
I know there is slow mo and all that, but I didn't expect West to start shooting so soon. He definitely made up his mind to shoot the cop before the cop was at the door.
accessories
This is tragic. The shooter is dead, but are there potential accessories to the murder who could be investigated? And should there be an expectation in bad-guy circles, that when you associate with a guy who does something like this, you're going to be subject to greatly increased scrutiny?
