Boston Police report arresting a Dorchester man they say was packing a loaded firearm when he jumped out of a car that was still moving as they tried to pull its driver over for a traffic infraction. Read more.

Zoo New England reports the Franklin Park Zoo giraffe baby rushed to the Tufts animal hospital when it wasn't doing too well after its July 24 birth got well enough to be returned to the zoo. Read more.

The Boston Fire Department is blaming "careless disposal of smoking materials" on decks for a six-alarm fire on Bunker Hill Street in Charlestown on July 21, a five-alarm fire the next day on Chelsea Street in East Boston and a four-alarm fire on Sawyer Avenue in Dorchester on July 26.

Charles Washington, 43, of Dorchester, was arrested in June, and indicted today, on charges he and associates set up a sophisticated system to steal money from the bank and home-equity accounts of 16 high-income residents at several Boston area banks. Read more.

Eversource reports the power went out at 7:01 a.m. and that it hopes to have it back on by 10 a.m. The company says 6,035 customers are affected.

Ray Bolger mural in Dorchester

The Mayor's Mural Crew this week finished an homage to Dorchester's own Ray Bolger, best known for his role as the Scarecrow in "The Wizard of Oz." It's on the side of Romel Dry Cleaners, at Dorchester Avenue and St. Mark's Road.

Bldup.com reports that developers Yijie Dai and Jin Yue Zhang this week purchased 493 Washington St. in Codman Square for $1.6 million. The seller, the Full Life Gospel Center, paid $55,000 for the building in 1999. The single-story building sits on a 9,000-square-foot lot.

87 Sawyer St fire in Dorchester

The Boston Fire Department says "careless disposal of smoking material" started a fire this afternoon that did $500,000 in damage to the house at 87 Sawyer Ave. and melted the siding on the house next door. Read more.

Around 11:20 p.m., at Topliff and Stonehurst streets One victim was found on Stonehurst between Topliff and Norton. The second was found on Norton Street, near Speedwell.

A car was also hit.
