Could somebody alert the media that East Boston has a Central Square, too?

That little girl didn't disappear from the McDonald's in Central Square in Cambridge. She disappeared from the McDonald's in Central Square in East Boston. Fortunately, it's a moot point, since she showed up at home last night, but, you know, it might make a difference sometime. For the record, the Globe issued a correction.

I live in Central Square, Lynn. I've been referring to it as "The Other Central Square." Now that I know of at least three, I may have to rethink that.

But do East Bostonians even call it Central Square?

The reason I ask, in a conversation with one of the waitresses at the Kelly Square Pub, a few blocks up on Bennington, I said something about "Central Square" and she assumed I meant Cambridge. OTOH, I see that some businesses there have the address ""XX Central Sq", so it must be in common use.

Ive lived/worked near central squares in Lynn and East Boston and from what Is saw many of the locals called their Central Square central square, but once you got outside the host city , even just over the border Central Square means Cambridge and Central Square East Boston means what it means.

That being said it took me a long time to figure out where exactly Central Square was in those other two cities, but very quickly figured out where Central Square Cambridge was. the Cambridge Central Square definitly wins the prize for winning the branding game

I once got a cab in Southie and asked to be brought to Central Square, and the cabbie proceeded to head over 1A. I was distracted at the time, but soon realized he was bringing me to the wrong location.

I asked him why this was the best way to get to Cambridge, and he seemed confused. "You don't want to go to Lynn?" he said.

Yes, this was a one-time isolated incident, but now I always say "Central Square, Cambridge." I'm not sure why he thought I was going to the Lynn one, but I agree with Shady; for the most part, when you say Central, you're talking Cambridge.
