If you like thin-crust pizza and you like beer, and you live or work near Roslindale Square, you're going to be making a trip to Cafe Rialto, which opened last week at 4197 Washington St. - next to Robyn's, where the Square Corner Cafe used to be.
This smallish (10 tables) place is just perfect for an after-work bite, with a variety of fried appetizers (from calamari to buffalo fingers), Italianish sandwiches (fresh mozzarella, tomato, basil and seasonings, for one, also calzones), salads and pizza and beer. Pasta is coming soon.
TVs on which to watch the game? Of course.
We stopped in for lunch today. Got sweet potato fries and your basic pepperoni pizza. Both were very good - the fries were nice and crispy, the pizza nice and flat and covered with a very nice tomato sauce (although Nancy thought it was a bit too spicy; I, on the other hand, loaded it up with crushed red peppers).
They have a variety of non-Budweiser beers on tap (you can't miss the handle for Goose Island Honkers) and a small wine selection.
If you're driving, parking can be a little difficult in that stretch of Washington Street, but there's a free municipal lot around the corner on Taft Hill (bear to the right past the restaurant).
Ed. historical note: Look on the wall near the windows for the tiny photo of the old Rialto Theater, which stood on the non-Robyn's side of the place, where the medical center is now. It was a gift from the folks over at the Rialto Barber Shop.
