Possible pipe bombs in MIT dorm - except they weren't

UPDATE: MIT SAYS DEVICES DETERMINED TO BE HARMLESS, NOT PIPE BOMBS.

Emergency crews are at Building W70, AlertNewEngland reports. The building has been evacuated, MIT is telling people to stay away.

MIT initially reported:

At around 7:30 a.m. a private contractor doing construction work on the New House dormitory at 471 Memorial Drive at MIT noticed suspicious materials in a common area on the third floor of the building. The building was evacuated. The Cambridge Police Bomb Unit determined that the materials were, in fact, suspicious and should be disrupted by a water cannon. This first disruption of the materials was done around 9:50 a.m. State Police closed off part of Memorial Drive as a precaution while the material was being disrupted.

The bomb unit reentered the building and determined the need for an additional disruption. As a precaution, police evacuated Next House, an adjacent dormitory. The second disruption of the materials occurred around 11:30 a.m. A third disruption was conducted around 12:40 p.m.

When did they pave over Lexington Green?

A movie company hired by the Tea Party Museum will film a re-creation of the Battle of Lexington on a field just west of Richmond, Va.

The Herald summons ye olde outrage over the moviemaking, set for next month. As the Herald notes, the Tea Party Museum is getting $21 million in Massachusetts tax subsidies.

On its site, LionHeart FilmWorks claims:

The concentration of events in this 10-minute project to the events of early 1775 is allowing the Director to be able to focus on intimate details of the era and events from Lexington Green, so that it may be portrayed and illustrated with strict detail, perhaps for the first time with such detail and authenticity on screen. That is our mission.

Or maybe it's because we just don't have enough Revolutionary recreators around here. Right?

A detailed and authentic Eastern Massachusetts civilian impression is requested to most accurately portray the 77 American Patriots that stood on Lexington Green. Even though we are filming in summer, the night of April 18th and early morning of the 19th would have been more than a little chilly. Wool garments are preferred, including coats and some greatcoats.

Mmm, yeah, wool greatcoats in July in Virginia.

The Ancient and Honorably Artillery Company, the hemisphere's oldest military unit, elects its officers the first Monday of every June and then marches to the Granary Burial Ground to lay a wreath at the gravesite of Robert Keayne - the company's first captain.
