That'd be awfully shellfish: Legislature to consider elevating the quahog above all other bivalves

The legislature's Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts and Cultural Development today considers a bill that would declare:

The quahog shall be the official shellfish of the Commonwealth

Which, of course, would outrage fans of the Wellfleet oyster, to say nothing of the clam strips at Woodman's. Up in Gloucester, Joey is steamed:

For Christ's sake, the lobster has more place as an official shellfish than the freaking quahog. lets see how much revenue is generated by each shellfish before we go handing out that designation to a third tier shellfish. HELLOOOOOOOO!!!!!

What a crock of shit! This bill must be sponsored by some South Shore hack. Where's our Goddamn representation???? North Shore Represent!!!!!!

Broken-down Green Line leaves riders walking to work - the ones who weren't stuck in a tunnel for 30+ minutes

The T's now busing from Fenway and St. Mary's inbound on the D and C lines due to signal problems near Kenmore.

The buses were of little help to Mike, who reports spending 50 minutes studying a Green Line tunnel. As Jeff Clark sat on a stuck train, he wondered if somebody could send him some breakfast.

Citizen complaint of the day: Crazed bird dive-bombing Harborwalk visitors in the North End

Attack bird is out thereAttack bird lurks, awaits next victim.

From Citizens Connect:

A very aggressive bird (bluejay maybe) attacks anything, human or dog, that comes through this part of the Harborwalk between 40 Battery and Union Wharf. Can animal control do something about it?

New MBTA system map?

Cracked window on the Orange Line

That must be what that is, because surely the T isn't so short of cars on the Orange Line it would send one out with a cracked window held together with tape, would it? Dave Rodrigues took this photo this morning.

Palinistas can't leave Revere alone

Seems they're now fighting a war with Wikipedia over the encyclopedia's article on Paul Revere (scroll down this attempted revision).

The Wikipedians are getting a bit fed up.

J.L. Bell, who knows something about revolutionary Boston, chimes in with a deconstruction of Palin's remarks at Old North Church:

It sounds like Palin got an accurate description of Revere, the Lexington alarm, and his adolescent bell-ringing at Old North Church during her travels, but that history got garbled in her attempt to spin it into modern right-wing talking points ("Put the government on warning!" "We need our arms!"). The result was her typical stew of folksy phrases without logical or grammatical connections.

There was a rainbow before last week's Whole Foods meeting

Gretchen Van Ness was at last week's Whole Foods meltdown and provides an account.

Meanwhile, the Jamaica Plain Gazette reports Mayor Menino supports Whole Foods, blasts the old Hi-Lo owners and suggests the protesters go back to Chicago or wherever it is they're from (the three people arrested last week were all from Jamaica Plain).
