1948 World Series - Game 1 Cleveland Indians at Boston Braves

Mel Allen and Jim Britt broadcast game 1 of the 1948 World Series between the Boston Braves and the Cleveland Indians, with just the touch of casual racism you'd expect for 1948 with teams with names like that.

Besnilian

A Brighton District Court judge let a Watertown man walk out of court today following his arraignment on OUI and leaving-the-scene charges for a crash in Allston that sent two people to the hospital, one with head injuries, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Joseph Besnilian, 23, was ordered to wear a GPS monitor, stay away from the wheel and liquor and obey a curfew, however.

UPDATE: Joseph Besnilian, 23, of Watertown, is scheduled for arraignment in Brighton District Court on charges of OUI and leaving the scene of an accident causing personal injury in his VW Jetta, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Stanley Staco reports a car plowed into two pedestrians at Franklin and Lincoln streets around 12:40 a.m. and that one of the two was taken away in critical condition.

Empty turnpike

After disrupting traffic on the turnpike and shutting down the Worcester Line on his trip out to Weston, the president did the same thing in reverse on his way back to Logan this evening. Greg Hum photographed the inbound turnpike around 6:30 p.m.

Scott Matalon says he came home from a weekend trip to find Harvard and Brighton avenues plastered with signs banning parking on Wednesday and Thursday between 4 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Matalon, owner of Stingray Body Art and president of Allston Village Main Streets, says the move is not just annoying, in an area miles from past championship violence - it's a business killer, because for Allston, Halloween is more like Black Thursday; it's "the biggest spending days we have."

"It kills the restaurants," he said, adding other businesses will also suffer when many of their customers can't park anywhere near them.

The Daily Free Press reports Roxy's Grilled Cheese wants to serve beer and wine with its sandwiches at its upcoming bricks-and-mortar place in Union Square in Allston. Only problem: Those pesky state regulations that require it to get a license.

Around 9 p.m., both Intestinal Fortitude and Swarthy reported a woman riding a Hubway bike on I-90 eastbound just past the Allston/Cambridge tolls.

In a possibly unrelated incident, about 45 minutes later, State Police reported a pedestrian was hit by a car on I-93 south by Columbia Road.

Over the past few months, Boston University has taken a somewhat leisurely approach to filing lawsuits over its patent on making a component of LEDs, suing Apple here, lobbing a lawsuit at Amazon there.

Yesterday, though, BU opened the floodgates, filing nine separate lawsuits in US District Court against Acer, BlackBerry, Canon, Dell, Fujifilm and some companies few people have heard of.

BU is trying to cash in on the 1997 patent, which lays out a process for making thin films of the sort used in LEDs, before it runs out.

The suits ask for an immediate halt of the allegedly offending products, all the profits from them, damages, penalities and, of course, lawyers' fees.

A concerned citizen frets:

Is there something we can do to curb the throngs of BU students from crossing Comm Ave against the walk light? They haphazardly cascade across the street between classes, with no regard for vehicles and bikes. Not only is it unsafe for them, but it creates a dangerous driving situation. Thanks!
