5:20. They had the disabled train (which was still signed up as Lechmere) stowed in the Park loop, which meant they couldn't short turn any trains there (Yay!).
According to the traffic I heard on the operator's radio, the dispatcher was making the decision on whether or not to short turn certain C or E trains at Government Center based on the operator's reports of passenger load on each train, and NOT because trains were bunching together (Yay! - this should be standard procedure whenever they're thinking of re-routing trains during rush hour). Our North Station train was overflowing as we left Park Street, so we were NOT forced to get off at Government Center.
But that's due to the T's failure to run an adequate number of trains and their "make it up as we go" dispatching policies, and not because light rail technology is "an out of date piece of junk".
Not to mention the fact that it's hardly a secret that senior T management is generally opposed to light rail in the first place (and has been almost since the day the agency was founded).

Yay, let's expand the Green
Yay, let's expand the Green Line some more! Let's take an out-of-date and inefficient piece of junk and make more of it!
Inefficient perhaps
