Woman in hot water over hot water

MBTA Transit Police arrested a Philadelphia woman at the South Station bus terminal last night after she allegedly flung a cup of hot water at the manager of the terminal McDonald's.

According to a police report, Rhita Lingham, 56, initially ordered a cheeseburger and milkshake, but when she realized she didn't have enough money for the order, asked the server to take out the milkshake, but give her a cup of hot water instead. When the cashier said that would be 25 cents, Lingham went into a rage, grabbed the cup and threw it at the manager, dousing her leg with hot water.

Lingham was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (hot water) and disorderly conduct. The manager declined medical attention.
