Suspects

MBTA Transit Police report they are looking for a black male, a Hispanic male and a white female on charges they attacked a man because of his sexual orientation on a State Street Orange Line platform around 10 p.m. on July 10:

The victim was on the northbound platform when an unidentified male # 2 shoved him onto a train as the doors opened because of the victim's sexual orientation. The unidentified male # 2 as well as the individual depicted as # 1 directed several homophobic slurs at the victim after shoving him. The suspects depicted above along with an unidentified female companion, boarded an Orange Line train at State Street Station with the victim and continued to harass him about his sexual orientation. The suspects then fled the train at Haymarket Station.

If caught, they'll be charged with assault and battery and civil-rights violations.

It's a mess on the Green Line tonight due to a "minor derailment" of an outbound trolley between Hynes and Kenmore.

MBTA spokeswoman Lydia Rivera says trolley 3602 derailed around 6:15 p.m. after leaving Hynes. No injuries were reported and passengers were evacuated through the tunnel to Kenmore, Rivera says, adding the T hopes to have repairs made by 8:15 p.m. In the meantime, it's shuttle buses between Kenmore and Copley in both directions.

The Globe reports Jeffrey Mullan will depart as state transportation secretary this fall because he needs to make more money, not because of any concerns over his handling of Big Dig safety issues.

Mullan, however, issued a statement after the Globe report came out:

Reports of my departure as Secretary of Transportation this fall are premature.

The MBTA has started selling ad space on its Web site, with the first ad scheduled to start tomorrow. The T hopes to make "hundreds of thousands" from online ads.

Commuters will get a chance to help choose the color scheme of the new locomotives the T plans to start rolling out at the end of 2012. Alas, the T has already selected the three finalists, rather than putting up an app that would let you experiment with, say, multi-colored polka dots or Charlie shushing people in the quiet car; you'll get to vote starting tomorrow on mbta.com.

Whole series of planking photos, including my favorite - planking the giant steel T outside Alewife. Sometimes, though, it can be hard to tell if somebody is planking or dead drunk.

A roving Universal Hub reporter filed this report from Woodland this afternoon:

From first hand experience (I was there), a 2-car train (cars no. 3645 and 3843) had their pantographs damaged when entering Woodland station, possibly due to an issue with the overhead wire there. They sent a team over there pretty quick and they tied down the pantographs and shut down the cars. Shuttle buses showed up at Woodland around 45 minutes later.

And that's why there was shuttle-bus service along the D line today.

Should we walk, or do we have time to take the T?

, the answer apparently is: It doesn't make a difference.

In their latest attempt to cover up how minimal the replacement shuttle bus service between North Station and Lechmere really is, the MBTA has just put up a series of new posters at North Station "suggesting" that people destined for Science Park might want to walk there instead of taking the shuttle bus. The read (in part):

Getting To Science Park

Shuttle Bus: 15 Minutes
Walking: 15 Minutes

Red Line service was stopped in both directions; traffic a mess as well.

AlertNewEngland reports the worker appears to be conscious. The worker was extricated not long after rescue crews arrived. Channel 7 reports he suffered only minor arm injuries.
