The Boston Licensing Board this week granted valuable full-liquor licenses to several North End restaurants that say they need to fend off advances from fancier places on the waterfront.

But with only a total of ten of the new licenses to dole out - and several of those already awarded - the board also denied requests from several restaurants in the North End, on the waterfront and in some other neighborhoods. Read more.

The Globe reports the owner of the Summer Street power plant, which almost never generates power anymore, has put the property up for sale - with an eye towards maybe turning the space into residential and commercial space, as one does.

Although the mostly pink plant no longer pushes out the current, it is still in use as a power substation.

Despite what the city was telling at least one Brighton resident, people didn't have 48 hours for saving a space they'd marked. Jenna spotted this DPW truck on O Street in South Boston this afternoon with the bed full of cones and other items people had used as space savers.

Gordon Bedford wonders if the city will use all the cones for a Burning Man-like structure and set it ablaze.

The Boston City Council today approved a request from at-large Councilor Michael Flaherty for a hearing to try to get Massport, the BRA and the city Economic Development and Industrial Corp. on the same page when it comes to re-use of the city-owned land on Boston Harbor.

Flaherty made his request after news broked that Massport has put land out to bid in the Boston Marine Industrial Park in South Boston and that one bid calls for relocating businesses from Widett Circle, including meatpacking plants, even though the industrial park is supposed to be limited to businesses having some relation to the seas. A series of hearings on licenses to serve all kinds of liquor today turned into something of a battle between the North End, where restaurants that traditionally serve nothing harder than aperitifs want to up their game and the South Boston waterfront, where lawyers say more hard-liquor licenses are desperately needed to quench the thirsts of the thousands of new residents, workers and visitors flooding the once desolate area.
