Fire on Dunster Street in Jamaica Plain

The Boston Fire Department reports a fire called in around 3:30 p.m. at 46 Dunster Rd. in Jamaica Plain went to three alarms before it was brought under control.

The department estimates damage at $300,000. Nobody was injured; two people were displaced. The cause and exact origin are under investigation.

The end of the Forest Hills upper busway

Clay Harper watched the demolition of the upper busway at Forest Hills this morning. It's part of the work to add a berth for those extra-long 39 buses now that the old trolley station they'd been using is in the way of the new Arborway.

The Jamaica Plain News reports on a BRA session at English High on coming up with long-range plans for the Washington Street corridor. The top resident priority was affordable housing.

Around 5:40 p.m., a man accidentally dropped a vodka nip on the Orange Line tracks, so he jumped down into "the pit" to retrieve it. On getting back up, he was met by T employees, who held him until the arrival of police - who told him to not do that again. Service was not delayed.

Transit Police have posted photos of a guy who rode up to Stony Brook station on a bicycle Monday morning, went to the bike rack and stole a tire off another bike.

City Councilors Tim McCarthy (Hyde Park, Roslindale and Mattapan) and Michelle Wu (at large) hope to hold a hearing at which MBTA officials can explain the differing fares for commuter-rail stations within Boston city limits - in particular at stations south of Forest Hills. Read more.

Work begins to tear down roof over upper busway at Forest Hills

And won't that make waiting for a bus tomorrow fun?

The metal coverings over the upper busway are being torn down as part of the overall Arborway/Forest Hills station changes - which, on a temporary basis, include smushing all the upper-busway routes that used to be split between two lanes into a single lane.

The T or MassDOT or somebody last week shifted the taxi stand at Forest Hills from in front of the station down Washington Street near Ukraine Way. The sign did not go unaltered for long.

Cab drivers are not happy about the shift, Jamaica Plain News reports.

Aurum, which sells calzone-like sandwiches in Hyde Square, goes before the Boston Licensing Board next week seeking a beer-and-wine license.

The 377A Centre St. eatery, now open until 9 p.m., is also seeking a midnight closing time.

The board's hearings begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in its eighth-floor hearing room in City Hall.

Clay Harper watched a World War II-era military plane fly overhead in Norwood today - no doubt going to or heading away from this weekend's air show at Norwood Airport.

The BRA board this week approved a plan by the developers of a proposed 13-story residential building at 105A South Huntington Ave. to build 36 units of affordable housing someplace else in the area, rather than including them in the project, which will rise from 5 floors on the Jamaicaway side to 13 on South Huntington. Firefighters and police are at the north end of Jamaica Pond, where a passerby noticed a body in the water near Perkins and Chestnut streets, around 10:30 a.m. Firefighters quickly retrieved the body; now police are investigating who the man was and how he wound up there. NECN reports police do not suspect foul play.

Around 8:45 a.m. at 24 Walk Hill St., at Hyde Park Avenue. The suspect was described as Hispanic or black, about 6' and 190 or 200 lbs.
