Boston Spirit reports on gay Muslims in the Boston area:

... I met Faisal Alam at a Back Bay coffee shop on a visit from his current home of Atlanta. He was born of Pakistani parents in Germany and raised in Europe, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan before moving with his family to the United States when he was 10.

In 1997 he came out to himself—in a big way. "I exploded out of the closet," he told me, almost knocking over his coffee cup, talking of nights spent at Campus, Manray, Buzz, and Club Cafe. ...

Many items stolen. A sad situation for this hard-working little church near Egleston Square.

Mark Baard provides our RDA of weirdness. Unclear, however, is why they chose the Aquarium to bring us the news that celibacy has failed.

So the Roxbury Crossing T stop now has a stylized mural-like thing of the nearby mosque and some people are upset:

As the photographer points out, the Boston public transportation system does not sport crosses, stars of David, or other religious insignia. How did this exception come about? One hopes that Bostonians are not so beat down by ISB litigiousness that they have lost all curiosity about that institution's activities.

Looks like Boston's not an Irish town anymore. This reminds of gang colors and insignia posted all over American buildings, roadways, etc., used as "turf markers."

Oy. I have no love for the the Jew-hating First Amendment deniers at the Islamic Society of Boston, but really, turf marking? Should criminals get outraged that Forest Hills station has a stylized iconish sign pointing to the nearby West Roxbury District Court?

Just not enough demand anymore; sixth graders have to find a new school for September.

When police ordered Alan Nystedt of Haverhill to fold up his folding chair and remove himself and his shopping cart from in front of St. Paul's Cathedral on Tremont Street yesterday, he refused. And because he didn't have a permit to "occupy a city sidewalk," they arrested him.

Police say Nystedt had set up shop in front of the church to protest something involving the church (the BPDNews report does not specify what; anybody remember seeing him?).

Apparently, Fresh City thinks the same thing applies to their wraps. Jocular Schlemiel reports he was grateful the chain had a Passover menu - until he noticed it included shrimp and rice.

... I understand that it is more Kosher style than truly Kosher, and while I think that a Kosher for Passover menu is a great idea, it may have gone over better had there been some research done before drafting an actual menu. The only hint of Passover I really received was a piece of stale matzah. ...

The church recently bought the old Alexandra Hotel at Washington Street and Mass. Ave. to use as its Boston headquarters. John Keith posts a note from a South End activist who was not happy to read about Sunday's anti-Scientology protest outside the church's current Back Bay digs:

... I hope this is not a common occurrence. We certainly don't need more noise pollution in our neighborhood. I am trying to understand why they are protesting and why they are wearing masks. I'm hoping the Church will explain this at upcoming neighborhood meetings. 150 protesters would be a fairly large number for our neighborhood. That would jam up that intersection quickly. ...

In general, however, the note expresses the hope the new headquarters will help bring new retail and even cut down on gang warfare in the area.
