BPD District E-5 is reporting seven Toyotas and Hondas in Roslindale and West Roxbury have been stripped of their tires since Nov. 7.

In a neighboring town, police say, a Sprinter-style U-Haul was spotted near where five cars had their tires and rims removed.

The Jamaica Plain Gazette reports neighbors of the proposed 64 Allandale St. subdivision are still blasting it even after the developer lopped 2 units off the 20 she'd originally proposed. Too dense for something right next to Allandale Woods they say.

The BPDA had already approved the 20-unit proposal; the change means it will have to vote on it again - and after that comes a hearing before the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Register of Deeds candidates

John Keith told members of Progressive West Roxbury/Roslindale this week that if he elected Suffolk County register of deeds, he would work to try to make the obscure position an appointed one.

Keith, an independent, is running against former Boston City Councilor Steve Murphy, a Democrat, and independents Margherita Ciampa-Coyne and Joe Donnelly in the Nov. 8 election. Read more.

Flower at Millennium Park

Slowly is the best way to to walk the path along the Charles River and Saw Mill Brook at Millennium Park - more of a chance to see things you'd miss otherwise, such as the small fish swimming along the river bank, the turtles sunning themselves and the small flowers on some stalks. And if you get lucky and you look across the brook, you'll realize what you thought was the top of a 15-foot tree stump is actually a great blue heron. Read more.

Guy flying around Millennium Park in West Roxbury

Seems there's this guy who's taken to throwing himself off the top of Millennium Park in West Roxbury, but it's OK because he has both a lightweight engine and a parachute and he flies around the Charles and Millennium Park and Cutler Park, no doubt having the grandest time. Mary Ellen captured him in flight the other day.

Boston firefighters are back in the woods between Roxbury Latin School and the bird streets in West Roxbury, where the brush has burst into flames again.

A BFD spokesman says officials have "no idea" why the brush keeps catching on fire when other parts of the city that usually see brush fires - including the nearby Stony Brook Reservation - have so far remained fire free over the past couple of weeks.

Boston firefighters are in the woods behind Willett Street (off Thrush Street) battling the neighborhood's latest brush fire. BFD reports this is the fourth fire in the woods near Roxbury Latin School in the past two weeks.
