Helicopter circling Chelsea

Chopper over Chelsea. Photo by Andrew Teman.

A helicopter is flying low and in circles over the area this morning. It could be a federal radiation chopper, or it could be a training exercise by the FBI and State Police. Read more.

Sure, I could send e-mail to Globe Direct about how their circulars keep winding up on our porch (this morning, lovingly placed underneath some pruning shears on our porch - wouldn't want it to blow away, eh?), but I've taken a fancy to calling 888-MY-GLOBE because at least that way I get to cost them some money for the privilege of ignoring all my previous e-mails and phone calls about how I don't want their circulars.

Yeah, there is the annoying fact you'll be put on hold for a couple minutes, but, hey, that's why God invented cell phones that turn into speaker phones when you flip them over.

I'm in a four day steel cage death match with Comcast over (lack of) service related to a failed cable-box, compounded by a Comcast-generated "reset" that's cratered the replacement, plus all attached satellite boxes in my house. I live in Cambridge.

I would dearly love to drop them like a bad habit, but need a replacement for internet and television, preferably bundled.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Went out this morning to run the kidlet up to her bus stop and there was one of John Henry's little Globe Direct poop bags filled with stuff we don't want that stupid John Henry seems unable to stop his minions from fouling our street with. And it's not to be confused with the bright red Globe Direct bag that disappeared into the snow on our front porch in January or February only to recently reappear like some of the steaming dog waste that it's only marginally better than.

CNN truck and trash bag and note telling CNN to get rid of its trash

Eric Ballard spotted a CNN truck parked in South Boston (for the Tsarnaev trial?), and the trash bag its crew apparently left in the street - and a note from an outraged citzenry informing the network to cut that crap out, right this second.

Piled up trash in Allston

Colleen Cressman shows us the situation on Kelton Street in Allston, where the trash collection point for several apartment buildings with the same owner has now gone a couple weeks without a trash pickup. She notes that pile is all trash, not just some bags on top of snow.

A weary-eared citizen complains about the alarm system at the Empire Garden dim-sum place on Washington Street, kitty corner from Lagrange:

The alarm from this building has been going off every night for the last week and no one comes to turn it off. There are many residents complaining about it going off for many hours at a time. It has a bull horn pointed out towards the street.

On Boston Reddit, jamesishere recounts an encounter with a Spark Energy salesman who showed up during the Pats game last night, demanded to see his electric bill and then wouldn't leave even after he dialed 911:

I figured he was going to run at this point, but he says he will wait for the police. So I make him wait out on the porch, and I think he was about to walk away, but 6 cruisers seem to appear out of nowhere in 45 seconds (pretty amazing response time, though I do live quite close to the police station).

Seriously? Easter stuff out in December?

Jocelyn was a bit nonplussed to see Easter and Valentine's candy already out in the Revere Stop & Shop tonight.

Verizon dropped the local Fox affiliate from its Boston-area system today in some sort of contract dispute, meaning lots of people outside Boston didn't get to watch football. Except for a tiny sliver of Dorchester, Verizon never cabled up Boston, in part due to a long-running dispute with Tom Menino and now the company has stopped expanding its service anyway.

Two complaints this fine fall morning from citizens trying to catch some winks early on a Saturday morning. First, on Alger Street, a resident complains about guys slicing up train tracks. Train tracks? Train tracks.

7:30 on Saturday morning and there is a private crew on Alger street in South Boston . With no permits . Using saws to cut up railroad tracks. No respect for this neighborhood or the people who live here. Enough already!!!

Shortly after 10 a.m., Matt, up in Salem, asked:

Major Comcast outage? No tv/inet. Phone # has no menu, goes straight to 30+ min hold. Anyone else?

Apparently so.
