In what other state would Dunkin' Donuts coffee figure so prominently in a federal corruption indictment? The lengthy indictment against former state Sen. Brian Joyce features page after page about Dunkin' Donuts coffee - hundreds and hundreds of pounds of the stuff, in bags and boxes and K-cups - that the owner of more than 100 Dunkin' Donuts franchises allegedly gave Joyce in exchange for legislation aimed mainly at protecting the guy from suits over the pooling of employee tips. Shot three times in the arm just south of the Neponset River around 9:45 p.m. Police are looking for three suspects who wore red Halloween masks. Police found two shell casings and blood on Blue Hills Parkway at Willoughby Road.

Milton Police report two incidents in the past three months of women getting into what they thought were legitimate for-hire cars outside clubs or bars in other, unspecified communities, only to be driven to Milton, "sexually accosted" and then dropped off nearby.

The operator of the vehicle is likely targeting females, traveling alone, who he believes may be intoxicated.

A man packing a loaded firearm in the backpack he carried when caught inside Milton High School in 2015 had his gun charges dismissed today when the Supreme Judicial Court ruled a police officer did not have enough evidence to search him and his backpack without a warrant. Read more.

Bridge over the Neponset River

On Friday at 5 p.m., DCR opened the newest section of the Neponset Greenway, a 1.3-mile stretch from near Central Avenue into Mattapan that includes the new Harvest River Bridge crossing the river between Mattapan and Milton.

If you pull into the parking lot for the Ryan Playground, on River Street, sort of opposite Gladeside Avenue in Mattapan, follow the new path into the woods, which will take you to the Greenway. Turn left and you'll soon come to the bridge, the river and the path towards Lower Mills. Read more.

Otter

There was no mistaking this as anything but an otter, because you'd think the Audobon Society folks at the Trailside Museum at the Great Blue Hill would know the difference between an otter and a muskrat, at least based on the sign on the enclosure for the critter.
