Old cars parked without resident permits

A peeved citizen, or maybe a citizen who's trying to be funny, it's hard to tell when it comes to Southie, filed a complaint today that these two cars, parked outside 61 M St., don't have residential parking permits.

Today in Lynn, U.S. Rep Seth Moulton spoke about his 'no' vote on the Syrian Refugee Bill:

I disagree with everybody who voted for the Republican bill. It's the strongest screening process for any traveler who comes to the United States, and the Republican bill does nothing to strengthen that process. It adds some layers of bureaucracy, but doesn't actually strengthen the security. I spoke out on a policy that I believe is essential to our national security. I'm not running for governor.

The Boston Licensing Board tomorrow considers approving a proposal to transfer the beer and wine license held by Gerard's on Adams Street in Dorchester to the soon-to-open Aloft Hotel on D Street - and to grant a new full-service liquor license to Gerard's purchasers, who are planning on renovating the Dorchester institution. Cloth elephant on the move in South Boston

Payette, a Congress Street architectural-design firm, designed itself Pearl the elephant as part of a circus-themed display at the International Interior Design Association's fall New England fashion show earlier this month. Yesterday, staffers wheeled Pearl over to the South Boston convention center for the Architecture Boston Expo.

Firetrucks at 100 Widett Circle cold-storage fire

UPDATE, 9:25 a.m. Second alarm struck.

Boston firefighters are at the AmeriCold Storage building, 100 Widett Circle, for a fire in basement ducts and first-floor loading dock. Ammonia is present. At 8:40 a.m., the first-floor fire was declared knocked down and the flow of ammonia into the building turned off.

Ryan Mcgrale's Facebook page is filling this morning with remembrances after his unexpected passing yesterday. Mcgrale, one of the pioneers of the craft-cocktail movement in Boston, was the beverage director at Tavern Road on Congress Street.

Rather big police presence at Castle Island around 10 a.m. - including a State Police helicopter - looking for whoever thought it was a good idea to use the peninsula right across the harbor from Logan to fly some drones. It's what the FAA likes to think of as "restricted airspace."

Boston Police report a man who robbed the Citizens Bank branch at 441 W. Broadway yesterday afternoon tried to hide his face by pulling his sweater over it. But he did that in the bank, and after a teller had noticed the Band-Aid on his face. Read more.

The Boston Fire Department reports "careless disposal of smoking material" at 120 L St. in the Monsignor Powers project led to a fire around 5:10 p.m.that sent two residents and one firefighter to the hospital. Read more.

If you live in the path of Logan Airport departures there's no doubt you were unable to sleep the morning of Saturday, October 31, 2015. He's a chart of the flights from about 5:30 A.M. to about 9:00.
