Early plan for Government Center a bit different than what we actually got

Utile posts an image from a 1959 plan for a Scollay Square replacement that would have started pretty much at Old City Hall and which would have involved a series of low-slung buildings:

In spatial design, as well as building massing, and no less in spatial and massing composition we were very mindful of weaving into the existing social and physical texture of this part of Boston.

Man charged with May murder in Dorchester

Boston Police report the arrest of Lavonrence Perkins, 20, for the shooting death of Cordell McAfee on May 10.

Police say Perkins was hiding out in Providence, and was arrested with the help of Rhode Island State Police and the US Marshal's office.

McAfee was found with multiple gunshot wounds at Dorchester Avenue and Roseland Street on the evening of May 7.

McAfee was the state's star witness in the first case against gang members for the shocking death of 10-year-old Trina Persad in 2002. At trial, McAfee, himself only 15 at the time of her death, testified he and other members of his gang went in search of some rival gang members to avenge a shooting attempt. McAfee testified that when they found them on a Roxbury basketball court, a member of his gang opened fire with a shotgun - hitting Trina instead.

Innocent, etc.

So what else could go wrong on the T today?

How about "a structural problem" that has closed the bus ramp to JFK/UMass? The T is running a shuttle bus between JFK and Andrew.

Oh, and there's a boring disabled train at Braintree.

Sharon man latest to be sent away for role in Boston-area mortgage-fraud ring

Andre Junior Lamerique, 26, earned a five-year federal prison sentence today for his part in an effort to wring more than $10 million out of lenders in bogus transactions on properties across Boston, the US Attorney's office in Boston reports.

Lamerique is the ninth of eleven people charged in the case to either plead or be found guilty. Lamerique pleaded guilty last year to 33 counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy.

Federal prosecutors charged the eleven recruited "straw" buyers for whom they submitted inflated mortgage bids to mostly out-of-state lenders. The buyers got a fee, then disappeared, leaving the lenders holding properties not worth what they'd just spent for them. Lamerique's role was to recruit the phony buyers and to file the bogus applications for them.
