First the basement flooded at Ming Tsai's Blue Dragon on A Street. Then a water-main break sent water up into the restaurant's grease traps, causing a second, and smellier, flood. Read more.

UPDATE: The restaurant passed a re-inspection and can open again.

ISD ordered MDM Noodles, 351 Washington St., shut earlier this week for violations that included flounder and un-canned Spam not being kept cool enough, cooked lamb not being kept warm enough, a lack of adequate hand-washing facilities for workers and rat droppings on the floor of a closet at the end of the area where hot foods are prepared. A Chicago woman in town for a bachelorette night in May wound up spending much of her time in an emergency room after a flaming rum and whiskey drink set her face and upper torso on fire at Crave Mad for Chicken on Kneeland Street, police, her attorney and the restaurant's owner told the Boston Licensing Board today. At the buffet table

Flaming Grill and Buffet, which offers Chinese and American food, and plenty of it, opened Friday in the Stop & Shop mall at 950 American Legion Highway, next to the Walgreens.

The place did well with its fliers and newspaper ads - the large space was busy tonight on only its second day. Read more.

Sampan reports that Chau Chow City on Essex Street closes forever on Sunday. Fans of its seafood will now have to drive down to the other Chau Chow on Morrissey Boulevard in Dorchester.

East Ocean City on Beach Street recently closed as well.

The Board of Appeal today approved plans to replace an old pet-care place at the lonely corner of Tremont and Herald streets with a new seafood place that would offer outdoor seating in warmer months. Read more.

A city health inspector has ordered the shutdown of the prepared food section at New York Mart (the old Ming's), 1102 Washington St., until managers fix several violations found in an inspection last week.

According to the inspector's report, cooked chicken and pork were both being stored at 110 degrees, when they should have been at least 140. The inspector also noted heavy grease and soil buildups throughout the kitchen area, including in the hood over the cooking area.

Scott Tetreault alerts us that the Flaming Grill and Buffet on American Legion Highway is now nearing completion - it's posted menu prices ($12.99 Monday through Thursday, $13.99 on Friday and Saturday) and is advertising for workers.

A health inspector shut China Bo, 49 Warren St. this week partly due to its lack of hot water for washing dishes and hands, partly due to the rodent droppings found atop the heat lamp used to keep food warm. Read more.

Seven Star Street Bistro on Belgrade Avenue might seem like the exact sort of place the creation of "neighborhood" liquor licenses in Boston was meant for - a small, entrepreneurial effort by a young chef in an outer neighborhood.

But the legislation that created the new licenses limited them to Roxbury, Mattapan and Dorchester - and the city's "main street" districts. Roslindale has one of those districts, but Seven Star is several blocks outside its borders and so ineligible for one of the new licenses. Read more.
