The MBTA tonight announced it's adding additional morning service on the Blue Line and more service throughout the day on the Green Line's E branch and the 7 bus from South Boston, following complaints today that service reductions went too far and led to riders being forced to crowd together at a time when that's the last thing they should be doing. Something happened to the overhead wires at Newton Highlands and that caused some significant problems on the Riverside Line, the MBTA reports.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m., the MBTA threw its hands up and said the Green Line was such a mess that riders should just give up and traipse over to the Orange Line to get between North Station and Copley - because of a dead outbound trolley at Boylston.

The MBTA experienced delays after one trolley's brakes seized up at Copley and began to smoke. Workers uncoupled the seizing trolley and took it to that place where bad trolleys go. Read more.
Jonathan Berk was among the riders inconvenienced at Copley Square around 11:40 a.m. when yet another one of the brand-spanking new Green Line trolleys had to be taken out of service because one of its doors broke. He adds it wasn't just Green Line regulars who were put out - there were a lot of Orange Line riders trying to use the Green Line as a downtown replacement due to it being shut for repairs this weekend.
The conversion of the Government Center garage into a large mixed-use complex will require the temporary relocation of the Haymarket bus terminal and might require the shutdown of the Green and Orange Line stations underneath that, state transportation planners say. The T says there's an unspecified wire problem at Haymarket that means no trolleys between North Station and Lechmere - and that it's re-set the signs at Park Street, since trains are running there.
The MBTA reports the track was whack enough on the Riverside Line to round up buses to shuttle passengers between Reservoir and Chestnut Hill in the middle of rush hour, but that things are once again hunky dory.
Transit Police report a 40-year-old woman suffered serious injuries when she was hit by an inbound Riverside Line trolley at Newton Centre around 7:45 p.m.
