Joe Pesaturo at the T reports:

Over the last two nights, workers have been replacing some rail in the southbound section between Porter and Harvard. It will be finished tonight, but in the meantime, a speed restriction of 10 mph is in place on this section (normal speed limit is 25 mph).

The work that led to shuttle buses on weekends was related to the supports on which the tracks sit.

MBTA Transit Police report arresting a homeless man on charges he punched and spit in the face of a Silver Line driver who asked him to pay his fare.

Sean Stuart, 43, was arrested shortly after 10 a.m. at Washington Street and Massachusetts Avenue - after being pulled off the driver by several Boston Police officers, Transit Police say.

According to an MBTA Transit Police report:

The Atlantic recently reported a company in Luxembourg is methodically suing public-transit agencies across the US, alleging real-time bus and train information violates patents it holds with a partner in the British Virgin Islands.

One transportation authority it won't sue, however, is our own MBTA.

Shortly before 8 a.m., the MBTA sent out an alert that an outbound Haverhill Line train was delayed 10 to 15 minutes due to "train congestion."

Amelia Sutton recounts a recent four-hour train ride on commuter rail from Providence to Boston. For those unfamiliar with that route, no, it's not supposed to take four hours:

Perhaps I should have seen a blacked-out train with no AC or electricity to be a bad omen when boarding in Providence. But no. The conductors assured us that the engine was functional thanks to "reserve batteries." We would be fine!

It's buses all the way down from Kendall to Broadway on April 28 and 29. Well, except at Downtown Crossing, where the buses won't be stopping (riders should get off at Park and either walk or take the Orange Line). The service disruption is so the T can install new elevators at Park Street.

The MBTA announced today that by this fall, riders should be able to use their smartphones as replacements for their current paper passes.

The T's signed a contract with a British e-ticketing company for a system that will let iPhone, Android and Blackberry users hold up their phones to conductors rather than passes.

The new system means the end of the promise to let riders use CharlieCards on commuter rail. However, riders will be able to link CharlieCards to their smartphone accounts, eliminating the need for paper tickets at connecting subway or bus lines.

Police, however, did not buy his story any more than the woman who followed him off the train and held him until the law arrived after she got a glimpse of his junk.

Michael Galvin, 37, of Somerville, was arrested on a charge of open and gross lewdness for an incident on an outbound B trolley around 6:40 p.m. yesterday.

According to police, he exposed his penis to a woman as the trolley approached Packard's Corner:

Matt McGowen likes the commercial, but wonders:

I hope that they don't cause confusion about the MBTA's no seat saving policy.

In advance of a visit by the Brazilian president today, the Secret Service no less ordered Occupy MBTA evicted from the State House steps last night. State Police provided some trucks so the protesters could move their stuff; they'll be allowed back today after the departure of Dilma Rousseff, her eyes protected from the sight of Americans clinging to the quaint idea they have a right to peacefully assemble.

Firefighters quickly knocked down a fire in an escalator at the Government Center T stop shortly after 7 p.m., but heavy smoke forced them to evacuate everybody from the station and ask the MBTA to have Green Line trolleys bypass the stop until the smoke could be cleared.

A delayed citizen asks why the T can't have two card readers on every bus - one for normal people and one for the first-in-liners whose CharlieCards come up empty. The city will no doubt forward this to the T.

Ed. note: A couple weeks ago at Washington and Cornell in Roslindale, I saw a most amazing thing - a guy waved other people onto the bus before him because he knew he had to add more value to his card and he didn't want to hold everybody up. You go, good sir!

The Globe reports the T is halting the sale of 12-ride punch tickets good for six months because too many people were managing to get extra rides out of them. They'll be replaced with 10-ride tickets good for just a month.

On the B line, that starts somewhere between Copley and Hynes, Five Thousand Words a Day reports:

The change is far from gradual, yet you never notice it until you look up and see that the quite nuclear family from Rhode Island has been replaced by a conspicuous gaggle of 12-15 bros who have taken pre gaming to a new level.
