MBTA Transit Police report arresting a 74-year-old Dorchester man on charges he felt up a teen on her way to school last fall - after she spotted him on another bus yesterday, wearing the same multicolored scarf he had on when he allegedly first attacked her.

Joseph Potter was charged with indecent assault and battery following his arrest shortly before 8 a.m. on a Silver Line bus out of Dudley station. Police charged him after he was identified by the high-school student he allegedly felt up on a 19 bus on her way to the O'Bryant School on Nov. 3.

Alleged attackerA Dorchester man is due in court today on charges he attackeds three women, one an ex-girlfriend and another pregnant, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Antwan Thompson, 25, was arraigned today on two counts of assault and battery and one count of aggravated assault and battery, the DA's office says. His alleged victims: A former girlfriend from Roxbury, 22, and two of her friends, a 28-year-old woman from Dorchester who is eight months pregnant and a 21-year-old woman.

Prosecutors say the three women were waiting for an inbound Orange Line train around 2:30 p.m. when they spotted Thompson - and moved down the platform to stay away from him. At Downtown Crossing, however, Thompson left his car and entered theirs, the DA's office says:

The victims later told MBTA Transit Police that Thompson began shouting at his former girlfriend as he entered the train car. When her pregnant friend attempted to separate the defendant from the victim, Thompson allegedly punched her in the back.

Thompson then allegedly began to punch his former girlfriend in the head and face with a closed fist. When another female friend of the two women approached Thompson and yelled at him to stop the assault, he allegedly pushed that woman down on the floor.

An unknown man managed to subdue Thompson and kept him pressed against a wall until MBTA Transit Police arrived, the DA's office says.

Thompson was ordered held in lieu of $8,000 bail.

Innocent, etc.

Madfilkentist chronicles his three-hour, 45-minute ride from Porter to Fitchburg last night - a trip that normally takes an hour and 20 minutes:

The next stop was Waltham. Before we reached it, the train was stopped for an unusually long time. Finally we were told there were mechanical problems that were being looked at. The lights went out for about ten minutes as all power was cut so the mechanic could look under the train. They came back on again, but there was still no motion. Finally we were told that the next train would hook up to ours and push us.

So after the four-hour ride from hell on the Worcester Line on Monday, MBCR apologized and conductors gave riders forms to get reimbursed for their trips - for both the ride out and the not-quite-as-godawful ride in in the morning. Kelsin reports what happened when he and his wife tried to get reimbursed at North Station:

MassDOT today announced an agreement to swap land at Lechmere with land by North Station that will lead to a new rail service north and west of Boston - and actual construction of the long stalled North Point development.

Under the deal, the state will give Pan Am Railways the land used for the current Lechmere Green Line station in exchange for the former Pan Am rail yard, which is across the Charles River from Massachusetts General Hospital, and rights to use other Pan Am tracks in the area.

Locomotives

MassDOT and the T have pressed into service five commuter-rail locomotives (shown here in Worcester) from Maryland to see if they're worth buying. MassDOT reports the units were rebuilt in 1995 and are in "very good" condition, and could help ease problems caused by our failing locomotives until new diesels come online in a couple years.

New video monitors going up at the end of Red Line platforms are part of the MBTA's plan to eliminate the second operator on trains, T General Manager Richard Davey tweeted this morning, adding, "will be doing industry safety review next month to make sure it's done right."

Orange Line riders will recall that the arrival of the monitors signaled the impending end of two-worker trains on that line last year.

After last night's inaugural sleeper-car service, the MBTA made sure to have one of those new Utah locomotives at the front of the 5 p.m. train to Worcester at South Station.

Meanwhile, MBCR, which operates the T's commuter lines, offered a free ride to passengers to make up for yesterday's ordeal.

UPDATE: Well, that didn't last long. Rob Friedman tweets from the 5:35 p.m. train to Worcester:

Dead train at Boylston means delays on all trains outbound from Park. At 7:47 a.m., Vilma Torres reported:

I've been stuck btween park st & boylston for over 30 mins.

A cranky Red Line didn't want to be left out. Joe Pitha tweeted around 7:40 a.m.:

UPDATE: Would you believe a three-hour delay on the Worcester line?

No, not on the Green Line, which is having major problems tonight, but on the Worcester commuter-rail line.

Kristen Garvey reports from somewhere not all that far out of South Station:

Okay, MBTA, we have been stuck here for close to 90 min. Can u send the rescue train? Mass Pike you look better everyday.

Philly.com reports the Korean-owned factory building coaches for Philadelphia's equivalent of the MBTA - and eventually for us - is having a few problems. The communications, heating and AC systems don't work and the cars are too heavy. And then there are the cultural differences between the Korean managers and the American workers:

The Boston Public Health Commission says it's focusing its vaccination efforts on people who worked in the same building as a French consulate worker diagnosed with measles - but says anybody who has any concerns should check with their physician to see if their vaccinations are up to date.

Christian Nielsen, a spokesman for the commission, said investigators there don't even know for sure which subway lines the woman rode and added she was last on the T long enough ago that the risk is relatively remote.
