WHDH reports a crash around 2:45 a.m. on I-93 southbound near South Bay sent six people to the hospital, including a state trooper who was stopped by the side of the road dealing with another crash when a car slammed into his patrol car.

A federal jury this week convicted Jaquan Casanova of tampering with a witness by attempting to kill him, which could net him up to 30 years in prison, the US Attorney's office in Boston reports. Read more.

Around 10:45 p.m., BPD officers responded to Columbia Road and Blue Hill Avenue on a report that some guys on dirt bikes had just smashed a window of a sergeant's personal car.

As officers roamed the area looking for five guys on dirt bikes - several were spotted but not pursued for safety reasons - officers found somebody who'd just been robbed at gunpoint at Dudley and Cottage streets, shortly after 11 p.m. The suspect made off with, among other things, the victim's sneakers.

A Suffolk County grand jury this week indicted Brian McElhinney, 23, on a charge of manslaughter for the April 17 death of Brian Hingston of Quincy behind the Greenhill Bakery on Adams Street, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Read more.

Boston Police report the arrest of two men on charges they gunned down Raekwon Brown outside Burke High School on June 8 - one of them who was already considered an "armed career criminal" at age 18 five years ago.

Jonathan Aguasvivas, 23, of Roxbury and Benzy Bain, 24, of Mattapan, were arraigned on murder charges in Dorchester Municipal Court. They were ordered held without bail, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Police said more people could be charged.

Boston Police report that drug-unit officers conducting a search at 31 Baird St. found two guns, one loaded, and several rounds of ammunition.

Kyjarri Dookie, 21, of Randolph, was charged with two counts each of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

The Supreme Judicial Court ruled today Suffolk County prosecutors can't use a gun as evidence against a man charged with illegal gun possession because the Boston police officers who found the weapon after stopping the car he was in for speeding failed to provide enough evidence the car was going too fast. Mayor Walsh today annnounced a ten-year program, called Boston Creates, to "weave arts and culture into the fabric of everyday life" in the city.

The city will set aside money each year for public art projects - 1% of each year's spending on capital projects. One of the first areas to benefit will be Hyde Square in Jamaica Plain, where the city Public Works Department will spend $100,000 on public art to go along with a planned road upgrade. Read more.

William Averill, 50, of West Roxbury, faces arraignment tomorrow on charges he raped a woman who'd reported to him as part of her probation for larceny, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office and Boston Police report. Read more.

Licensing Board votes "no violation" by auditorium.

Boston Police and a manager at the Russell Auditorium say a man stabbed repeatedly outside the Talbot Avenue facility on May 7 was apparently attacked in revenge for a rape for which he was convicted about five years ago. Read more.
