Look what Jose Rios spotted turning onto Cambridge Street from Court today. No word if it was being pursued by Libyans. Hmm, you think MakerBot could print us up a flux capacitor?

Southie parking space

File this under "Only in Southie."

Technically, a concerned citizen was complaining about this, but hey, give the person credit for just parking a car on that "yard" instead of applying to the zoning board for a six-unit condo building on the space, amirite?

Lisa Paulson has her Ford Escape back tonight thanks in part to modern tracking technology but mostly due to her sister's chutzpah.

Paulson woke up Tuesday morning to find her Escape stolen right out of her driveway. After contacting police, who basically told her there wasn't much they could do, she called EZ-Pass to cancel her account, her sister, Kathleen O'Connell, reports. "Oh, well, that's funny," the woman at EZPass said - the car had just gone through the tolls on the Tobin Bridge.

Large turnout for bridge meeting

Large turnout for Cambridge Street session.

Pedestrian safety, physically separated cycle tracks, and opposition to a proposed fence were front-and-center last night in Allston at a Massachusetts Department of Transportation meeting about the reconstruction of Cambridge Street between Harvard Avenue and Lincoln Street.

More than 150 people attended the meeting, including Allston residents, business owners and transportation experts. Many wore stickers that read "Union Square to the Charles River:" A common theme was that MassDOT and the city of Boston, which both own parts of the road, need to come together on a plan to improve all of the Cambridge Street.

Smashed cabs

The city reports the Boston cabbie who plowed into a Brookline cab at Berkeley and Chandler streets late Wednesday "has already had his licensed suspended and is in the process of being revoked."

The note comes in response to a citizen complaint about Boston cab drivers:

Very concerned about the city's regulation of taxi drivers who would race recklessly up Berkeley Street last night to catch a fare. This could have been a large loss of life as many were pouring onto the streets after the Red Sox Game.

And it comes the day after the mayor's office released a report on improving Boston cab service that included a recommendation to crack down even more on out-of-town cabbies trying to pick up fares on Boston streets.
