Bearing Arms reports that the musket first fired by a colonial at the Battle of Bunker Hill recently sold at auction for $492,000.

An anonymous buyer snapped up the historical item after it was put up for auction by the family of Private John Simpson, which had held onto the Dutch Type III musket over the centuries.

Two East Boston men find easy way to get from their neighborhood to Charlestown

Steve Holt, who lives in East Boston but works in Charlestown, reports that he and Rob Pyles commuted over to Charlestown this morning via inflatable paddleboards.

Holt reports they spent about 45 minutes on the water but that part of that time was spent admiring Old Ironsides at the Navy Yard.

The oil just kept flowing in Charlestown - right onto the driveway of a transmission place

The Boston Fire Department reports roughly 50 gallons of oil spilled onto the driveway at the Aamco transmission shop at 125 Cambridge St. in Charlestown around 9 a.m. while being pumped into a reclamation truck after it was full up.

Through liberal use of absorbent material, the BFD hazmat team contained the spill - and will remain on scene until it is fully cleaned up and removed.

Although some of the pogies that began showing up at the mouth of the Charles a few days ago made it out to their briny destiny in the Atlantic, others are now piling up by the locks and dam, dead. Read more.
