Police: Polite present thief arrested

Boston Police report arresting a man who allegedly stole a package off a porch in the area of Patten and Bourne streets in Jamaica Plain:

On arrival, officers conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate the suspect. In an effort to apprehend the suspect, detectives initiated surveillance on the suspect’s motor vehicle. After sitting on or watching the car for approximately two hours, the suspect returned to the vehicle. When asked about the stolen package, the suspect admitted to taking the package because he was afraid someone else might try to steal it. Package was returned to its rightful owner.

Ernest Polite, 39, was charged with larceny over $250.
