One of area's few remaining jazz venues fires longtime booker

The Globe reports the DoubleTree Guest Suites Hotel has fired Fred Taylor as its booker for Scullers. Taylor has been a "legendary figure" on the local jazz scene since the 1950s, the Globe reports.

What a shame. Didn't know about him till he was fired -- this guy is a real gem. Not sure what Scullers was thinking. Been to Scullers plenty of times and appreciate that they book jazz acts, but it's not exactly in a convenient location to walk to and you do have to drop some coin while you're there which means we can only afford to go once in a while. Boston used to have a more vibrant jazz scene when we first moved here 2 decades ago, but jazz/blues clubs and radio stations that had jazz programming are disappearing. And, unfortunately, it doesn't seem like many 20-somethings are jazz fans, so not sure what the near future holds for the greater Boston area. Thank goodness for Wally's and Beehive. Wishing Fred Taylor the best and hope he's got plans for a new venture.

but let's be honest; he's no spring chicken. Maybe a young whippersnapper in their 50s or 60s would handle the job better.

Without knowing much about the Jazz scene.. I do know this. That hotel isnt near anything. I've been in the area for over a decade and never thought to stop in. Looks like an opportunity for someone with money looking to open a new jazz club. Especially in an area like the emerging waterfront area. Open a jazz club thats near everything, and has a guy like this booking it. Thats basically printing money.
