Stephen Walsh, local fire photographer, dies

Long a familiar sight at fires in the Boston area, photographer Stephen Walsh died this afternoon.

Walsh, known as the "Flannel Photographer" because he sometimes showed up at late-night fires in his pajamas, was the son of Brookline firefighter Joseph Walsh. He suffered a variety of health problems, from spina bifida and leukemia to a bone infection that cost him both his legs last year, but he never stopped fighting for what he believed in.

He leaves his mother Patricia and sister Joanne.
