BC's Alumni Stadium catches fire, but blaze is quickly knocked down

Boston firefighters responded to the Campanella Way side of Boston College's Alumni Stadium for a fire that started on the roof, then spread through the stadium's HVAC system shortly after 10:45 p.m.

The fire was declared knocked down around 11 p.m., after sending flames and smoke into the night sky.

Earlier in the evening, BC kicked off "Senior Week" by shooting up fireworks from Maloney Lawn, near the stadium.

Sounds like the current state of American higher education. Setting themselves on fire. Would make more sense across the river though. Maybe its a mirror.

History repeats itself

In 1970, Harvard allowed the Boston Patriots to play their regular-season home games at Harvard Stadium while their new home, Schaefer Stadium, was being built somewhere in the hinterlands. But the World's Greatest University wasn't about to let the Pats (who were as awful in 1970 as they are this season) play pre-season games in Cambridge Allston, and BC let them play at Alumni Stadium.

Which caught on fire during the exhibition game against the Washington football team. Well, actually it was a hot dog stand underneath the bleachers that caught on fire, but still. The unlucky fans sitting atop the hot dog stand poured out onto the field, and the game was stopped for a while until things cooled down.
