WBZ reports Sgt. Clifton McHale will be suspended for eight days for "conduct unbecoming a police officer" for saying he hit protesters - although investigators said he didn't actually do so - the night riots broke out following a peaceful George Floyd march and vigil on May 31, 2020. Read more.

Federal prosecutors charged today that after Thomas Nee lost re-election as president of the Boston police union, he joined a scheme at the BPD evidence warehouse in Hyde Park to put in for overtime for which he didn't work. Read more.

Police supporter getting dragged away after failing to punch some protesters in West Roxbury.

A man who claims to support the police got about 30 people to join him outside the E-5 police station in West Roxbury, where for two hours this afternoon, they shared a relatively small space on the sidewalk with a similarly sized group of people who want to defund police, each side screaming and bellowing at the other and only occasionally trying but failing to punch out some opponents. A New Hampshire man initially charged for trying to wrest a 13-year-old girl from her parents near Faneuil Hall in 2018 is suing Boston Police because they were, he says, too slow to correct the record to show he had nothing to do with a crime allegedly committed by his younger brother. Read more.

WBUR reports on yesterday's release of a review of BPD actions and inactions after Patrick Rose was first accused of raping a child in the 1990s. Rose, who eventually became president of the local police union, is now behind bars awaiting trial on charges he raped several more children.

The state Ethics Commission yesterday officially tut-tutted a veteran Boston cop who did a favor for a pal's brother who was basically on probation at his job at the MBTA by writing up a criminal complaint that the guy submitted to prove he had a better reason for missing his shift than simply oversleeping: Getting arrested for beating up his girlfriend. The US Attorney's office reports that former BPD Sgt. William Baxter, 62, of Hyde Park, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit theft concerning programs receiving federal funds and one count of embezzlement from an agency receiving federal funds. Read more.

The US Attorney's office reports that Diana Lopez, 56, of Milton, a former BPD officer, has pleaded guilty to embezzling $36,028 over three years in overtime payments she didn't earn while working at the department's Hyde Park evidence warehouse. Read more.

Four people who took part in a George Floyd vigil on Boston Common last May 31 have sued BPD and three specific officers for allegedly attacking them with batons and pepper spray as the rally ended and turned into several hours of looting that they say they had nothing to do with. Read more.

A Boston Police officer who was already on probation for a domestic-violence incident and who was arrested yesterday on new domestic-violence charges had the more serious charge dismissed before his arraignment after his attorney convinced a Dorchester Municipal Court judge that pavement is not considered a dangerous weapon in Massachusetts.
