Cambridge and Algonquin Gas Transmission today filed a plan that will let the pipeline company use part of a quarter-acre city parcel off Rte. 2 in Lincoln to haul in new equipment for a pipeline facility on the company's adjoining lot. Read more.

A Florida woman on a bicycle turning from Mt. Auburn Street onto DeWolfe Street in Harvard Square around 4:30 p.m. died when hit by a box truck whose driver was going in the same direction but then decided to make a turn, Cambridge Police and the Middlesex County District Attorney's office say. Banker & Tradesman reports the MBTA is looking to turn the giant frown that is the crumbling garage at Alewife station into a smile by letting a developer replace it with something that would be the ultimate in transit-oriented development. The T acknowledges it would have to work closely with a developer to ensure construction wouldn't disrupt transit service, so more like the work at South Station than the work at Haymarket.

A Hyde Park homeowner and a Cambridge resident last week filed what they hope will be a class-action suit against Eversource for what they charge is constant false advertising and marketing about the supposed environmental and health benefits of natural gas, claims they say are belied by recent scientific studies and even the company's own statements, even if buried away in footnotes in documents most people will never read. Cambridge says a pipeline company that wants to cut down trees on a small city-owned parcel near the city reservoir on the Lincoln/Waltham line is disregarding the law, the rights of the town of Lincoln and the purity of Cambridge drinking water in its demand to use the parcel as a way to get heavy equipment to a neighboring lot for installation. A Texas gas-pipeline company yesterday asked a federal judge to order the city of Cambridge to let it cut down trees on a city-owned lot in Lincoln so it can haul in some pipeline equipment for installation on a neighboring parcel the company owns. Read more.

State Police report a Cambridge man heading north in the O'Neill Tunnel lost control of his Jeep Compass, crashed into a wall and died after the Jeep flipped onto the passenger side, shortly after midnight on Saturday.

State Police identify the driver as Robert Smith, 59, and say he was not wearing his seat belt. The crash remains under investigation, State Police say.

MIT News reports on a five-year deal between the MIT Electron-conductive Cement-based Materials Hub and the Aizawa Concrete Corp. to research ways to use concrete in ways you really wouldn't think it could be: To replace lithium batteries to store energy created by wind and solar power and to create systems that could de-ice frozen roads and sidewalks. A federal judge yesterday sentenced William Giordani of Manchester, NH to three years probation for the way he showed up at the Harvard Science Center with a bag full of Roman candles, bottle rockets and wires in it at the bidding of somebody who hired him through Craigslist - who then called police at Harvard seven times to warn them that bombs had been planted around the campus and to demand a large Bitcoin payment to keep them from going off.
