Police say they've nabbed two responsible for spate of armed holdups on the Common

GedeusGedeusBoston Police report arresting two men for a knifepoint robbery last night and say they expect to charge the pair for "numerous other robberies" on and near the Common.

Tommy Gedeus, 20, and Christian Ruiz, 18, were arrested and charged with armed robbery and resisting arrest shortly after 7 p.m. after two officers noticed them being chased by a third man. The two disregarded police orders to stop and instead tried fleeing into the Park Street T stop, where they were collared at the fare gates, police say.

Police say they had robbed the man and an acquaintance at knifepoint by the War Memorial statue in the center of the Common, making off with a cell phone, an iPod and the contents of one man's wallet - which they handed back to the man after removing cash. Police say one of the victims then gave chase despite one of the two guys having a knife.

After the arrest, the suspects were subsequently interviewed by A-1 detectives. The preliminary investigation indicates that Gedeus and Ruiz are responsible for numerous other robberies in the area. The investigation is ongoing and charges are anticipated.

Both were ordered held in lieu of $50,000 cash bail and ordered to stay away from the Common at their arraignment in Boston Municipal Court today, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.

Gedeus, however, would not be going anywhere even if he made bail, because he was ordered held without bail on a probation violation out of Quincy, the DA's office says. Last year, MBTA Transit Police issued a wanted poster for him after he allegedly skipped out on a court hearing on charges he attacked a T worker. He was charged earlier in the year with shoplifting by Boston Police and with destruction of personal property at the Malden Center Orange Line stop by T police.

Innocent, etc.
