Police: Teen with loaded gun gets into argument with man in Fields Corner; officers intervene before he can use it

Boston Police report arresting a 16-year-old with a loaded gun before he could use it during an argument at Dorchester Avenue and Faulkner Street Monday afternoon.

Police say an officer on patrol spotted a large group involved in "a disturbance" around 3:15 p.m. - with a Transit Police officer in the middle of it all, struggling with one teen in particular:

The Transit officer yelled, “He had a gun!” as the BPD officer helped to gain control of the male and place him in handcuffs.

The Transit officer informed the BPD officer that she had observed the youth arguing with an adult and attempted to separate them. As the adult ignored the Transit officer’s commands to disengage with the young male, the adult informed the officer that the child had a gun. When the Transit officer conducted a pat frisk of the male, she recovered a loaded .380 Iver Johnson Pony semi-automatic firearm.

The teen was charged with being delinquent due to unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and unlawful possession of a loaded firearm.

Nice job on the part of the MBTAPD and BPD.

I am curious as to the "adult" though. It almost sounds like the kid tried to mug the adult and/or the adult was trying to disarm the kid. Anymore info on that?

Lastly, that gun looks like it has been on the street for a good long time - unless responsible gun owners allow their guns to get that beat up (and no one I know who fits that description does).

That's a 40+ year old gun. It's probably been passed around for a very long time even prior the the 1968 GCA.

for a good long time! Does it even work? If so, ballistics might match several cases if it can be safely fired for a test.

So its probably safe to assume this young man had this on him while at school. Nice!

I don't know about all high schools in the city, but at least two get out well before 3, which would give him plenty of time to go home or to a bush in a park somewhere and grab a gun. That's even aside from the fact that many Boston high schools have students pass through metal detectors.

Oh please, when's the last time u were BPS student, fact most high schools have an aging POS metal detector that most ppl know how to circumvent, such an apologist you.

I've never been a BPS student. However, I have a kid who is (and yes, she goes to one of the schools where they don't need a metal detector, and yes, I'm grateful for that).

Seems not all BPS students have your exceptionally high IQ and in-depth knowledge of how the metal detectors work, however. You must be so proud.

Indeed I'm well rounded in all aspects of life and technology, as we all should be.

And don't get me started on the examination school kids with their addies. :X

A year earlier while in middle school at the McCormick they stabbed the nicest kid with a screwdriver and threw him on the tracks at JFK all because they thought he snitch to the teach. And if he did it was probably for the most insignificant reason, it's was middle after all.

The kid was a soft spoken Asian kid who was one of the best students and an all around nice guy. His parent promptly moved him out of BPS.

at least one gun (that I know of) has been brought to school. When one of my kids attended, a young lady packed one in her book bag and showed it off on the charter bus on the way to school. Luckily, another student went straight to the Headmaster upon arrival and dropped a dime.

That was the young lady's last day at BLS.

When was the last time you wrote a coherent sentence and didn't see the need to substitute "you" with "u".

Anons like to claim Uhub is censoring comments and stifling speech which is obviously not the case if he allowed a comment like the above to be posted.

While at Westie High (about 10 years ago), with metal detectors, I had a gun pulled on me leaving school and was robbed for what little cash I had. I was more pissed about being jacked for my T pass.

But ya no weapons ever enter BPS! I also witnessed 2 stabbings while a student there.

Adam- is there any practical way to keep an eye on this case as it winds through the system?

Very curious to see when this kid is put back on the street.

Count me among those who believe our gun laws make life difficult for responsible gun owners while troublemakers like this often walk free. This is my perception and I'd like to validate, or disprove.

Ps- to both officers; Well done and thank you.

Especially since this is a juvenile case, but I'll try to check with the Suffolk County DA's office.

At his arraignment today, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. His next court date is Nov. 18.

Kids on external suspension are now required to be tutored, so I wondering if there is something similar for the ones locked up in jail.

I wonder how school works in general for kids locked up. Anyone know?

Children held on pending cases receive instruction, and are marked constructively present. When possible they receive coursework from their respective schools.

Bail in Juv gun cases are typically high, 50k to 100k. Most cases are indicted, with the juvenile remaining locked up until trial. They attend school at DYS on whichever unit they are assigned. If convicted, they face DYS commitment until 21, with potential for an adult sentence thereafter under the Youthful Offender Statute.

Appreciate the info. Would still love a way to track specific cases. It's hard enough when 'speedy' justice often takes years, then harder since the minors name isn't published.

Their heroics prevented a tragedy. Kids with knives and guns riding the rails in the afternoon is a recipe for a disaster.

Surprised the bail was so high. A 21 YO arrested for carrying a firearm on Monday (who has a prior gun arrest) was released on 4K bail on Tuesday! Thanks Deval!
