Man was driving around Uphams Corner with a loaded gun until he ignored a stop sign in sight of cops in a cruiser, police say

Boston Police report arresting a Dorchester man on gun charges Thursday afternoon following a traffic stop at Columbia Road and Hancock Street in Dorchester.

Police say Nygell Jones, 43, of Dorchester, ran through a stop sign around 6:10 p.m. - in view of a couple of officers on patrol. They pulled him over and Jones's passenger got out of the car and tried to walk away. When Jones could not produce a license, he was ordered out of the car.

After further investigation, officers recovered a firearm from inside the motor vehicle. The firearm was later determined to be a Glock 30 with ten rounds in the magazine. Officers also recovered two plastic bags of cocaine, fentanyl, and two loose pills of oxycontin.

The passenger was promptly released from the scene.

Jones was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, possession of a class A drug, possession of a class B drug and driving without a license, police say.

I wonder how many they would catch if the cops did that every time they saw someone run a stop sign?
