In the uninhabitable western part of the state (i.e. Springfield) two-toilet is used to describe the Irish from Hungry Hill that left their families on the Hill and moved out of town to their own places. They were considered to have two toilets, one at the family place on the hill and another at their home in the suburbs.
Boston Irish could be divided into three groups: shanty, lace-curtain & two-toilet or TT Irish. The terms referred to their homes. None of the terms were complimentary.
