1:21 this morning outside Packy's Pub, 203 Blue Hill Ave.: BPDNews reports police responding to a report from the ShotSpotter system found bystanders near a man shot once, in critical condition. Looking for a light-complexioned black man in an orange jacket.

Seems to me the ShotSpotter system led police to a shooting victim, not the actual shooting. Of course, that's about all the system can do. Shoulda named it "BodySpotter" or "ShellCasingSpotter".
a shot was fired. they
a shot was fired. they responded to where the shot was fired, and then found a victim. sounds like it worked to me! did u think that shootings last for 10 minutes just like the movies? or that the shotspotter predicts shootings before they happen? are u an idiot?
But...
The money was spent on this system with the "promise" that it would help the police catch the shooters. How tough is it to locate a motionless body (surrounded by bystanders) on a sidewalk? As you say, shooters don't stick around much.
They should have sold this as a victim locater device, not a crime-fighting tool, which it clearly is not.
Further, in this case, the police didn't even call for an ambulance until AFTER they found the victim. Did no one in the area have a cell phone on them?
Apologies for the use of proper English. Hope u can read it all.
As you note
Nobody called for an ambulance.
Is it reasonable to imagine that because of this device, the police have witnesses?

Irony, thy name is anonymous. As usual.
