I also think it's great that
I also think it's great that he chose to be in front of South Station. Maybe he will really help push mass transit.
The fact that he was able to say
"Governor Patrick has shown tremendous leadership on
transportation" without falling down laughing was the
most impressive part of the film.
hmmm
Hmm, This is one of those people that need a podium or something when he talks .. I can't keep my eyes off of him and his twitching hands, etc.
But will ride the T for his commute?
Yadda, yadda. I just want someone who actually rides the T; for more than photo shoots. I love public transit and think anyone charged with overseeing transportation should too! I can't imagine them being able to do the job without it. I know he'll also be charged with other forms of transportation, but this is a must.
Further, next head of the T must also be a transit die-hard. Hiring "competent managers" is not enough. We need someone who cares just as much as the daily ridership does about how the T performs. We need someone who isn't just their to appease the MBCR folks and the unions.
I'm not against good wages, by the way, but I am also not against expecting damn good service for those wages (from the Executives on down) and expecting that a transit agency to be publicly funded. My tax dollars surely fund plenty of highway miles around this state, which I pay for even more when I use a ZipCar through tolls. I'll happily pay the taxes and tolls but the rest of this state needs to get its act together and reciprocate on transit.
