By adamg on Thu, 05/03/2012 - 11:15am
MBTA Transit Police today identified the man charged with spitting at a 28 bus driver on April 23 as Rafael Guzman, 21.
If caught, Guzman will be charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a public employee. His alleged accomplice, Maurice Jones, 18, of Roxbury, was arrested three days after the incident, in which Guzman allegedly responded to requests to pay his fare by spitting at the driver after which Jones made motions as if he had a gun and cursed out the driver.
Innocent, etc.

Look for him on a 28 bus
Maybe its me but shouldnt the Transit Police ride busses.
That's a lot of cops
Who's gonna pay all that salary? I mean, it's not like we can complain about them wasting money monitoring the 99% all year. Permanent security on the buses would amount to probably close to a thousand extra cops. Better to just deputize the drivers themselves and give them limited authority to make arrests.
Not every bus every time
I don't think anyone is saying that there should be a transit cop on every single bus trip in the entire MBTA network. But let's face it-- the majority of the police alerts we read about here and elsewhere happen on a small number of bus routes. Add a cop to every fourth or fifth trip or something like that and there might be a bit of a preventive effect.
Or, in the case of this fine gentleman here, an actual arrest.
Having transit police in the stations, especially during key hours, no doubt has that effect. Why not take it to the system itself, rather than just let it be the wild west? And I'm not even going to touch the security theater issue and the waste of time that is...
Oh, and is anyone else shocked and surprised that this idiot already has a mug shot?
mug shot?
I thought that was his Facebook profile pic.
