Teen-ager stabbed to death - in Sudbury

Channel 5: Teen Dies After Stabbing At High School.
MetroWest Daily News: Students: 'Really creepy kid' at L-S High talked of murder and bombs.

Margalit says the news hits home:

... When I saw the "breaking news' and the story was revealed, my heart literally lept into my throat. Even though this isn't the school my kids attend, they know kids from this school through camp and social settings. It is the school my cousins kids attended. It is the school an old friend's daughters will attend. It is the school that I wanted to teach at before I quit that noble profession for a real paycheck in the software industry. ...

I weep for my own children who are so vulnerable and precious. I will hug them tight tonight and tell them how much I love them. Please do the same with your own children.

The Sudbury Earth Decade Committee offers a virtual moment of silence.

These moments really show how parenting changes you, don't they? Me, I'm a 20-something guy with no kids. I read these school-violence stories, shrug and say, "Eh. Could happen anywhere." Make me a dad, though, and I'll probably start sounding like Margalit.

It really will change how you react to such things.

R.I.P James Alenson (requires a Facebook account, but pretty much anyone can get one these days).

Natick students who knew Alenson (also Facebook).

At 7:30 am, we were all herded into the cafeteria while police swarmed B building and rumors flew about a stabbing. Lovely way to start school, yeah? Anyway, after about an hour of announcments that really told us nothing they moved us all down into the gym where they proceeded to hold us for another two hours while still not really telling us anything. And then they called back the busses and let us go.

As you might expect, Lincoln-Sudbury students tend to be children of privilege. But it's also a participant in Metco, which brings out minority kids from Boston. Moxilicious, who graduated Lincoln-Sudbury 15 years ago, reports a discussion her father had in his gym this morning:

As a group of people discussed the tragedy in the locker room right after the news broke, one man piped up with, "Was it one of those blacks?"

All the news reports say that the alleged perp is from the town of Princeton, which is quite a long distance from Sudbury. Does this high school draw from a large region beyond the two towns in its name?

I could be 100% wrong, but if the kid was in a special-needs class (which I think he was), it's possible Princeton contracted with LS to provide his classes.
