The Boston City Council voted 10-2-1 today to formally oppose BPS's plans to move the O'Bryant School from its current location on Malcolm X Boulevard in Roxbury to a rebuilt West Roxbury Education Complex on VFW Parkway, saying that location, almost in Dedham, is just too far way for many students and that BPS has failed to really take into account the concerns of O'Bryant students, parents and teachers, let alone possible alternatives. City Councilor Julia Mejia (at large), said today BPS appears poised to announce it's moving the John D. O'Bryant School of Math and Science from Malcolm X Boulevard in Roxbury to the former West Roxbury Education Complex, next to a swamp on the edge of the city in a building that BPS officials ordered shut in 2019 because, they said at the time, it was filling with mold due to a roof that could not be replaced, atop a structure that looked ready to plunge to the ground. WGBH reports that the now former West Roxbury Education Complex has been re-opened several times this fall for events, such as for police physical-fitness training. BPS says there's a difference between occasional openings and keeping it open for an entire school year and besides, police are trained to deal with things like ceilings collapsing on their heads, unlike students.

Part of the discussion on the T worker and the noose post has basically centered on whether a noose is just a noose or a symbol of anti-black violence in this country.

On Monday, Nov. 19, students at Media Communications Technology High School in West Roxbury (it's one of the four small schools that now sit in what used to be West Roxbury High School) are holding a "walk-in" to discuss the implications of the Jena 6 case.

Instead of a "walk-out," where students shorten their education as a protest, we are hosting a "walk-in." Our students have opted to lengthen their education to raise awareness and create dialogue.

They certainly get the symbolism of the noose in American society:
