Man with a cross on Longwood Avenue

Why, yes, that was a guy carrying a cross down Longwood Avenue today, as Brian shows us. And yes, he had a pad and the wheel at one end to help him:

I should have called him out "REAL JESUS DIDN'T HAVE PADS OR TRAINING WHEELS!"

Like, say, your penis. Dr. Robert J. Hartman, Jr., of Brigham and Women's, discusses the case of a man who presented in the hospital ER with a broken penis.

On the basis of the clinical presentation, the patient was taken to the operating room for emergency repair.

His article is, of course, accompanied by a photo of the damaged appendage, so don't click unless you want that right in your face.

UPDATE, 9:22 a.m.: Technicians, who had to be freed from a traffic jam on Melnea Cass Boulevard, stopped the leak.

Fire crews are on Longwood Avenue this morning awaiting the arrival of a crew that can shut off a nitrogen leak. Stanley Staco reports Harvard evacuated three buildings due to the leak.

Parents of students at Boston Latin School got robocalls this morning that while the leak poses no threat to students, the school had gone into "safe mode," in which students were not being allowed outside.

Around 7:30 a.m., an electrical panel in the basement of Beth Israel's Feldberg building, 330 Brookline Ave., began to emit smoke. That's rarely a good thing; BFD dispatched firefighters to deal with the resulting small fire, which they did in short order - after shutting off the power.

Seems nobody's happy with the current cab situation in Boston, not riders, not drivers and owners and not large institutions that employ the sort of people who would be likely to need a cab.

The mayor's office today released a lengthy report on the state of cabs in Boston that features a number of findings and recommendations. Among them:

Bill Clinton's getting an award at the Harvard School of Public Health next Thursday and the kids at Boston Latin School couldn't be more thrilled. Not because they get to mingle with Bubba, because they don't, but because the fact the award is being given across Avenue Louis Pasteur from the school means they all get out of school 2 1/2 hours early so the city can shut the street or something.

The driver of a truck that had just offloaded steel to that new building under construction at Longwood and Brookline cut a right turn just a bit too closely around 1:30 p.m. and took out a traffic light at the intersection before it came to a halt.

Traffic through the intersection quickly came to a halt itself. Boston Police tried to keep traffic out of the Longwood Medical Area by blocking cars from Brookline Avenue at the Fenway and on Longwood at Avenue Louis Pasteur.

One person was injured in the smashup: A doctor who knew just what to do for the two cuts on his arm - he walked over to Beth Israel.
