Potential competitors for Marian Walsh's seat

In addition to West Roxbury state Rep. Mike Rush, state Reps. Paul McMurtry of Dedham and John Rogers of Norwood are looking at possible runs, the Herald reports. Wicked Local West Roxbury, though, says McMurtry has already scratched himself from the race.

Republican Brad Williams is also running.

Roslindale middle school on the right track?

Two-alarm fire in Dorchester six-family building

The Boston Fire Department reports 14 people were forced out of their homes and one firefighter injured by a two-alarm fire that broke out shortly after 11 p.m. at 55 Msgr. Lydon Way.

The firefighter was hurt when ceiling debris fell on him. Officials say the fire, which started because of a third-floor short circuit, did an estimated $400,000 damage. Officials say 14 residents were forced out of their homes.

Armed robbery in the North End leaves victim with slashed wrist

Boston Police tweet somebody was held up at knifepoint at Salem and Parmenter streets tonight. The victim was slashed in the wrist, but the wound is not life-threatening.

Dorchester makes you feel more alive

Candelaria Silva describes how she got in better shape, physically and mentally, simply by walking up the hills of Dorchester every weekday on her way to Ashmont station:

... Turning right, I walk a few blocks down to the Pope's Hill neighborhood to S. Monroe Terrace, which has a monster hill that starts immediately from Neponset and gives no grace until you’ve reached its top and magnificent views. Walking that hill is always a bear for me: will I make it? Turn back you fool! Nah, I can do this!. I keep my head down, focusing on each block of pavement until I make it.

Another challenge is to walk over Adams Street to the playing field and up the sixty plus steps to Train Street (I think that’s the name of it). I pretend to be Rocky Balboa. ...
