Boston public school students won't be seeing Obama's speech

No, the city hasn't gone wingnut. For some reason, Boston public schools don't open until Sept. 10 this year.

Colliding movies in Charlestown

Sam Baltrusis reports what happens when two flick production companies set up shop in Charlestown at the same time:

... "Irish" Micky Ward was spotted last week driving one of the passenger vans on Ben Affleck's "The Town," shuttling crew back and forth from set to base camp in Bunker Hill Street in Charlestown. ...

Shark Week at the Herald fails to live up to expectations

Headline: Shark sightings put Cape on alert.

Story: "Year-round residents aren't fazed."

A real newspaper would hire some gruff, squint-eyed sea captain so the reporter could get into a shark cage and go mano-a-finno with the Great Beast. Surely, two-fisted Herald maritime reporter O'Ryan Johnson isn't scared of a little fish, is he?

South Street Stonewalled by Stalled Bus 39

So, anyone know what the big fuss is by Sedgwick and South? Looks like either someone was very much on the losing end of a contest with the 39 bus, or it dropped half its engine on the street. Boston Police were out in force, redirecting southbound traffic away from the scene, and a lone MBTA supervisor was slooooooowly sweeping up what looked like kitty litter, which was hopefully for oil...

No word, of course, on the alert page.

Deval Patrick is not going to stick needles in you

Now that they've exposed Obama's plan to kill your grandmother, the wingnuts are flooding Massachusetts with urgent warnings that Massachusetts plans to force people to get flu shots this fall.

Not true, says Domenico Bettinelli, no fan of Democrats:

... I encourage you to read the whole bill as I did. You will [read] that not only does the bill not say that a person can be vaccinated against his will, it says the exact opposite. ...

Student arrested for gun possession at school

A student who showed up at a Charlestown school with a gun and then threatened to return and "shoot the school up" when school officials seized it and wouldn't give it back found himself learning about the Boston Police Department's booking process yesterday.

Ryan Beausoleil, 17, of North Reading was arrested around 10:15 a.m. on Thursday at the Seaport Campus, a small private school at the Charlestown Navy Yard, on charges of possession of a firearm on school property, threats to commit a crime (murder) and disturbing a school assembly, Boston Police report.

Innocent, etc.
